Jun 16, 2011 Sugar Babies love their hut Posted by: JamieDawnWalking though Petco, we were looking for a new wheel for our two gliders, Mike and Ike, we happened these edible huts, and thought they were too cut to pass up. Not necessarily with the intention to have Mike and Ike eat it, but if they were to be nibbling on it, I prefer it to be, rather than them chewing on wood. But they both love it, It's rare not to find the both of them in it cuddled up together.
Jun 15, 2011 Very first anything post :) Posted by: SemperFi531So my hubby and I have decided to get gliders...obviously :P lol. Anyways, we aren't getting them just yet. I'm still doing some research and we're saving up for everything (cage, cage set, toys, bonding pouches, etc). He's in the Marines and we want Camo cage set patterns I'm trying to find some online but if anyone reads this and has seen any or knows really where to look please comment :). Can't wait to get our babies :D!! Jun 14, 2011 late at night Posted by: Glidahgirl just figured id write since there isnt anything else to do. im sitting listening to music with my 2 week newly purchased sugar glider, Kandy. She is 2 years old and has never been hand tamed. my friend i bought her from said she doesnt know where they got her. great right? so i have a glider from who knows where with no vet record. im getting an appointment but am going on vacation on the 17 until the 30 so it wotn be until july. she seems very healthy. i shouldnt say shes totally wild. she will take mealworms from my hands or lick applesauce or honey off my fingers. i only have her but i have plenty of time to spend with her. in these two weeks shes seemed a little more friendlier in that the crabbing has ceased to a brief 2 seconds when i first lift her in her bonding pouch out of the cage since it wakes her up. my bathroom has too many holes for me to really let her loose. i tried it with my gerbils n one got under the sink n took an hour for me to get him out. i dont have a tent either. im gonna try and get one in the near future but everythings relying on after my trip. i have a good friend shes already been around that is keeping her. she seems to like him and she will be in good hands. however it puts our bonding off for so long. if i get a tent and let her out will she go back in her bonding pouch on her own if i put it in there at the end of 'tent time'? i guess ill find out for myself if i manage to get a tent. Kandy is currently snuggling down against my leg in her pouch i wish i could have her out already. ^.^ so impatient. i kinda wished i could have raised a baby first so bonding would be easier n i would have understood it better with her. o well i shall make the best of it. shes such a cutie. shes a bit on the shy side though. if im standing near her cage she just watches me. she wont play or anything. when i put food in there she instantly has to check it out, but thats really the only time she doesnt care if im there. she loves me to pass strawberries through the bars so she can eat them upside down. if i turn the light off and lay down she turns super active jumping running etc. she likes to bark and hiss at night. i am guilty of talking back lol Jun 11, 2011 Love Posted by: spyderwmnOkay. I need some help here. I adopted a Sugar Glider who was in an abusive environment. Well I've been working with her non-stop. She has gotten to the point where she will eat out of my hand and I believe she has bonded with me. The only thing is that she really sure crabs at me whenever I make an attempt to hold her. Am I missing something or does she just needs more time? Jun 7, 2011 Pookie loves her Teddy Posted by: Karlielove my fiance and I are currently nursing our Pookie back to how she was before. She's getting better thank god. Anyways what I want to write about it that our Pookie has this little Teddy bear. I had it as a key chain but It broke. I had an idea that what if she falls asleep with it like children sleep with stuffed animals. Well it worked she won't sleep unless she has her Teddy in her pouch. She will use it as a pillow. She will hug it and wrap one of her little arms around it and cuddle up against it. She even grooms her Teddy bear before she even grooms herself. It's her play mate lol. She will attack it in a playful manner but she's an aggressive one. Still cute and loves to be cuddled. I just find it so cute that she can't live with out her Teddy. I'll be posting up some pictures of her and her Teddy as soon as I can. My fiance has posted a picture of her already. I love Pookie so much and she loves her Teddy. May 25, 2011 A better Mealworm Farm Update Posted by: kazkoMy current meal worm farm has been running well so I thought I would share what I am doing. I am still using the two drawer Sterelite with exhaust fan. see: A better Meal Worm Farm
Meal Worm farm Exhaust fan
The beetle drawer has a thin layer of cornmeal substrate and lots of vertical paper egg cartons for beetles to climb and lay eggs onto. You have to keep moist food (carrot, potato) in here so they have a water source and sustenance. The beetles dont eat the cornmeal substrate but the newly hatched tiny worms will. Perhaps every six weeks or so the baby worms will be of a size that it is time to move the farm forward. From the beetle drawer I dust off and remove all of the egg crates and then dump the entire contents into the worm drawer. The empty drawer gets cleaned and receives a new layer of cornmeal, the egg crates and every single beetle immediately picked out of the worm drawer as well as over the following weeks. The substrate in the worm drawer keeps growing as you dump the eggs in every six weeks. After around 6 months it may be time to clean out the worm drawer. This is the annoying process involving sifting that nobody likes. But using this method, you only need to do it perhaps twice a year as the continuously added substrate keeps the worm drawer usable. You do want to microwave your new layer of cornmeal for the cleaned out beetle drawer in order to kill off any chance of bugs. The beetles dont really need cornmeal so keep that layer thin so that it doesnt add much to the worm drawer each time. I personally feed both drawers with carrots, corn cobs, misc leafy leftovers such as lettuce, and on the worm drawer I will occasionally dump in leftover chicken bones with all of the unused meats, skin and fats left intact. The worms love this stuff and will eat the bones clean and then will also get inside and eat the marrow. Any cooked bones with marrow will be a welcome addition to your worm farm. Dont forget to date your drawers. I use white board markers to do this as it washes off.
May 24, 2011 they hate me even more... Posted by: Efula32So tonite i finally did tent time. i was wary for a few days cause both my girls have runny poop from the meds. It's been a while since we've gone in the tent since I usually let them run around downstairs supervised. Anyways tent time was fun and they both enjoyed jumping and chewing on my notebook and textbook. ha! My pen was attacked by both. But when it was time for them to go back in the cage both lil boogers did not want to go back into the pouch. Zoe would go in just find, then pop out and the Meiko ran away from me and wouldn't let touch her. I tried treats..nothing...I tried mealies...nothing. To make long story short i got so frustrated that I literally yelled. Very loud. I didn't mean to, but I became extremely frustrated with both. I scared the crap outta both of them. Zoe ran off and hid on my back and Meiko looked at me not moving. I tried again to get them both in the pouch. More scampering and they both tore up my arms so bad it burns bad (they just their nails trimmed). Finally after 30 minutes i got them in the pouch and into the cage. I'm upset that i yelled at them and I feel horrible. I'm upset that I probably screwed up the thin bonding already accomplished. One just tolerates me and the other hates me. or they both do. I'm a bad mom. May 20, 2011 face hug Posted by: TazandEllieLast night we did our 1st tent time and my oldest daughter was in with me. She got the 1st face hug. was so cute. I keep hearing about them but never seen one til last night. May 18, 2011 Need some help?? Posted by: MissEstevaI have some question I need help!! 1. May 16, 2011 Central Alabama Breeders Posted by: jacob.harrisWould anyone happen to know of respectable, proper breeders in the Birmingham, AL, or Chattanooga Tennessee areas? any info is greatly appreciated! I am looking for 2 young joeys to start my sugar daddy life style (hahaha :p), preferably a matched mating pair (that are not related, of course) Papers and health records are preferable, but not required. Just so you know, I am NOT looking to breed for profit, but I do enjoy raising young. Selling for a profit just enables me to upgrade the living arrangements and splurge on the sug's diet! :) thank you for any and ALL info and comments! May 15, 2011 cage Posted by: Kailynnjones@hotmail.coni need a cage for my soon to be mine sugar glider. if anyone has one they want to sell please email me at kailynnjones@hotmail.com. thank you!
