I've NEVER had a problem with fruit flies and all of a sudden, here they are! I think they are coming from the kids' pumpkins! Needless to say, those are now outside but do I remember someone saying something about a dish of water with dishsoap in it to catch them?

It is apple cider vinegar and a couple of drops of dishsoap. Smelly but better than those pesky flying things landing in my food

I used white vinegar and put it inside a little cup that i could poke holes in. And set it near where they were. They were attracted to it and would go in and get stuck inside the cup. Then just throw it away (after putting up in bag).

Hmmmm.....this may be what I'm having a problem with too. I wasn't sure what they were other than pesky little flying insects.

I didn't have any pumpkins though when they appeared. I thought maybe it was the eucalyptus leaves since that was something new here.

I have twenty two indoor plants, so the tiny flies are invevitable. I push a pealed garlic clove into the dirt of each on the pots... and viola! no more flies.

You can use any kind of vinegar. I'm a bartender and they LOVE to try and get into all of the sweet smelling liquor. I have little dishes of vinegar strategically placed all over my bar, people I work with thought I was crazy, but now they get excited to check for new little floating flies every day.

This could be part of the issue too, then. Do they ever smell?

OK-white vinegar did NOTHING. I know have little dishes of cider vinegar near the plants and little cloves of garlic in the plants. Questions!!!! How long does the garlic stay there? Does it go bad and stink? Do you replace it every so often? Put it down in the dirt, lay it on top? My husband thinks I'm crazy so someone please justify what I'm doing. LOL

Any other sure fire tips would be appreciated!

sorry I didn't notice your post til tongiht. My grandpa learned the trick from the farmer almanac. You peal the clove and then push it halfway in the dirt of the pot upside down. So the cut part is pointing up and the top of the clove is into the dirt. I can never smell them. I leave them thier several weeks and when they are shriveled I replace them. However if you have plant that you keep more wet then dry just watch for rot. It takes three of four days to have all the flies gone, so just be paitent.
