Lacy,
I just wanted to tell you that I think your attitude is fantastic!

After all you have been through with relocating due to the storms, having to wait to get back in your apartment and now this. I am not trying to get you to focus on all that you've been through but rather offer some words of encouragement and applaud you that through ALL of it, rather than having a self-pity party, you just keep doing whatever you can to do what is best for Nibbler and Kadi.

I think as a Suggie Mommy, you RULE!!!!!!!!!

does anyone know if this medication may make my babies act different? im not sure if nibbler is mean to kadi or if kaid is upset.. just not sure but kadi like creeps around like she is gonna sneak up on a bug or something. and nibbler was mean to her last night aww it broke my heart. i gave kadi a treat after her meds and was about to give nibbler her meds and she ran over and snatched it out of kadis hand and ran away.. poor kadi just slowly looked at her hand and pouted. i tell you that broke my little heart.. but kadi has been acting strange ever since. but they are in the same pouch. any ideas of what should be done here??

Maybe Nibbler just doesn't feel well and animals know when others are sick as well. I'm sure they'll get back to normal. Who knows how antibiotics make them feel too. I know some make me so nauseous.

I would advise watching them very carefully. Gliders are exotic - which mean they will always retain their wild instincts. Gliders will instinctively pick on and/or eliminate weak and sick gliders in their colony so as not to attract predators.

Maybe it would be best to separate them for a few days until Kadi feels better and gets physically stronger. Since she isnt well, she probably wont try to defend herself is necessary.

Im so sorry all of you are going thru this.

idk the thing is that kadi isnt sick. the vet just told me to give her the medicine too. now kadi wont even let you touch her. she starts crabbing before you get your hand in the bag and she is biting like crazy!! but they are eating... i suppose ill go to my moms today and get the smaller cage for one of them... do you think one will notice that they got stuck with the little cage and get sad?? sounds a little silly, but i dont want them any more upset with me..

Giardia and the meds can make them feel under the weather, I personally would not seperate them unless absolutly neccessary, try to keep the routine as normal as possible. A sick glider who is then put on its own could stress them out even more. Just keep a close eye on them. If they are still sleeping together that is good, its when you see the sick one on its own say on the bottom of the cage thats when its time to seperate.
Giardia is contagious hence why the vet is getting you to treat both of them.

Its always best to treat all gliders involved - just in case. So, the medicine could be causing Kadi to have an upst tummy. And since they are both on medication - they are probably both feeling "off" and would be the reason they arent acting like themselves. I know when Im not feeling well - I certainly get crabby and Alan cant stand me.

It will be hard on all concerned to separate them - so keep their cages close so they can see each other and "talk". Try it for one night and then put them back together to see how they behave towards one another.

I am so sorry you are getting conflicting and confusing advice.

One glider is sick with giardia - both gliders are being medicated, which is causing them to feel "off" and stressed. One glider is picking on the other, causing even more stress, especially for the one being picked on.

In my opinion, if you feel he is causing more stress by picking on her - then put them in separate cages. Even if for one night so they can get a rest from each other. I certainly wouldnt wait until one of them is at the bottom of the cage.

It is your call,You are the one who knows how they behave when they are well and you are the one who is witnessing what is going on with the two of them and should be able to determine if its bad enough to separate them for one night.

Again - what an awful thing to be going thru.

One glider did something ONCE that was considered mean, this DOES NOT mean that she is being continually picked on. Even a healthy Normal Glider will squabble. If they were not sleeping together or if the sick glider was out on its own then yes there is reason for concern.
Why add extra stress if there is no need to. There bodies are already weakened and they are already under stress by being sick and on meds. STRESS can kill marsupials, it is better to keep thier routine as normal as possible unless one IS being continually picked on, then you need to take appropriate action.

Is the medicine liquid? Measure out the medicine and put it in a spoon then put a tiny amount of flavored yogurt on the spoon and mix it together and hopefully they will just lick it off the spoon and take their medicine much better. It worked for me with a different medicine which I had to administer 3 times a day and it was a lifesaver cuz they weren't having any of the syringe!

just a little update. kadi is still mean. nibbler still has runny poo. im having a really hard time getting them to take meds. kadi is crazy hard to catch but takes the medicine pretty well. nibbler is easy to catch but wont take medicine.after i finally get her to accept she shakes her head and slings it around. i put it in some fruit and when she smells it she shakes her head lol she hates this stuff. she ended up eating most of the fruit with the medicine in it. but every bite she would shake. anyone have any ideas what to do?

I don't think I'd wait if there are still signs of illness but probably it would be best to call the vet and ask them that question.

Nibbler, while your glider was on medication did your vet give you a bacteria suppliment?

You see, when gliders are on oral medication it sterilizes their stomach, which can actually cause diarrhea. When Neo was on any medicine the vet gave us a bacteria gel (for birds) so he wouldn't have diarrhea. He also said yogurt would be fine too. Maybe try giving some yogurt the next few nights if you haven't been?

So the chronic Diarrhea was actually Giardia, like the human disease but in Gliders, correct?
