Is the glide-r-chow a good food to feed my glider? And whats the best vitamins to be giving them? Will Glide-a-mins be good enough?

Um, those sound like marketed foods from a glider mill.

Unfortunately the answer is no. A pellet diet will not be enough for your gliders, even with a multivitamin sprinkled on it. Gliders need protein, calcium and several other things. Most people feed a variety of fruits, veggies and protein each night. I myself use a diet my vet suggests which consists mostly of fresh bugs and a mix I can create. Fruits and vegetables as a treat.

Anyway, do some search on some real diets, not something that a salesman gives you. You can even try calling vets in your area and see what they suggest.

This is my 4th sugar glider, I always fed them all the fruits and vegetables thats been listed on this forum. Mine also liked mealworms and believe it or not "Crickets". But I had seen a lot more info. on giving your gliders protein. And The last glider I got, it was too late for her. I had got her from someone that figured she was just going to die, and I had been taking her to a vet that was giving her some injections of calcium and vitamins. I done everything I could but the little helpless thing just didnt make it. I want my new baby glider to have everything it needs without a second thought.

You have to carefully monitor the calcium to phosphorous ratios if you feed a fresh diet. As far as protein that is harder to give calcium rich. Here's what my vet suggested I feed. It may not be the right diet choice for you or your gliders http://www.sugarglider.com/glidergossip/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=15934&whichpage=1 but it wont hurt to look at.

Ok, I have to say this but you have more than one glider right? if you want your new one to have everything it needs, it does need a friend.

The way you said this is your fourth glider I didn't know if you meant the fourth glider you've owned and you lost one and still have two others or you only have it now.

Hi I also was concerned about feeding my gliders Glider-R-Chow and Glide-a-mins so when I took my guys to the vet I took the food and vitamins with me. My vet said that the Glider-R-Chow would be a good supplement but should also should give the gliders another source of protein. He also looked at the vitamins and said that they has everything in them so they should be ok. He also said that the vitamins were not water soluble and to follow the directions so they didn't get too much vitamins. Oh he also said to make sure that they were getting extra calcium too. Hope this helps.

No this will be the first one that is actually mine. I was in a pet stores years ago when a lady came in and had gliders that she said she could no longer take care of. There was four all together, but the littlest one was the one who died. The other three I found a lady in Indiana that had a rescue shelter that was more able to give them everything they needed. So I took them to her, she would email me often and let me know there outcome. They all found new homes and were doing great. The lady that I got them from was using them to make money and was worried about there health. I have now decided that I want one of my own...

Well I hope you get it a friend. Gliders a colony animals and in the wild live in colonies up to 30. They really can get depressed, stop eating and if they get sick their chances of self mutilating are so much higher. Please take this into consideration.

tis ok.

I worry about glide-r-chow because it probably has a lot of "wheat by products" in it and isn't too nutritious. I def. wouldn't use it as a protein suppliment myself. I would only give a pellet food because they need dental health and then it would be a high grade dog or cat food.

Would it be a bad idea to try to house two males together at a young age?

Do you feed your gliders any form of pellet food?

Not regularly as i'd like. I can't remember what rita feeds but if I did it would be a high grade dog or cat food.

I used to feed pellets. Kept them in the cage all the time in case they got hungry in the day. After wasting about 20 dollars throwing so much out every day and then throwing out a whole jar that expired I realized it was a waste of time.

I give them Evo cat food as hand fed treats only. I truly believe they need something crunchy for good dental health.

I would not advise feeding the Glid-r-chow or the Glid-a-mins. Its better for the gliders to eat fresh foods, - protein, fruits and vegetables every night. You will need to learn the Calcium to Phosphorus rations as gliders need calcium to maintain good health.

When I got my first glider, I was sold a whole years worth of Glider Grub. Poor Tilly ate that for the first couple of months she was with me. Then I found this site and realized what a horrible mistake it was feeding that to her. I threw the glider grub in the trash. And her diet was switched.

Oh - forgot to say. You can get either Evo cat food OR Evo dog food. When the cat food runs out, Im switching them to the dog food as they dont have the same nutritional needs as a cat does.

Just to really make things clear - I do not feed Evo as a staple food. There is no bowl of it in their cage. It is a hand fed treat only.

Thanks to Rita I got some evo, but my son made the mistake and got the dog food. Good for him. I only give them a couple every now and then. They do need a staple food, or I should say it is nice to have a staple food in the cage. I use the zookeepers. I end up wasting more then they eat but they do eat some of it. There is time that they dont eat thier food at night why, who knows, playing, not hungry or what ever. Some times I have seen Maverick and Dakota in the day time eating the zookeepers. If they get hungry I would like them to beable to eat. If u are running late or go away and the person watching them for gets something aleast they have something to eat.

Jerry, I used to keep it in their cage at all times just for the reasons you mentioned - getting home late, emergencies, etc. But I have found the little boogers love that stuff and they will eat it all up first - then check out their normal food.

Not mine I only see them eat if when the other food is not in the cage. Good news I got home late Monday from Utah. I want to spoile them so I put two peices of each friut, watermellon, canalope, honeydew, apple, pineapple, and grapes surprise surprise every bit of fruit was gone.
