My female, that just had joeys oop is having some trouble with her pouch. There is what looks like a flap of skin hanging outside of her pouch...i don't know if the opening is just swollen, or what...but it looks like it might bother her some. She's allowing her joeys to nurse, and has had joeys before. So I don't know what this is for sure, and since it's sunday the only vet that's open is the emergency vet...and I don't really trust the doctor there. What should I do...and do you know what this could be?

Well I'm not certain that this is the case, but after the twins came OOP, Squeezle's pouch was pretty stretched and hung open. I think it takes some time for it to regain its normal shape. How is she acting like it might be bothering her?

I've never seen a pouch like this before. None of my girls have ever had this happen, but it does look like it could be bothering her. I'll definately get to the vet tomorrow, but should I take to to the emergency vet, or just wait until my vet can get me in?

Sometimes the pouch will do that after joeys but if you think it's bothering her then your call to take her to the vet is best. Here's another thread with a pic:

I couldn't get her in today, but she has an appointment tomorrow. If anything happens and she needs to get in asap, then I can go in whenever. But after letting her run around last night, it doesn't look like it's bothering her. So hopefully it's nothing

They like to scare us unnecessarily sometimes. Granted, sometimes it's necessary and we don't know that either.

Luckily I got out of school early today, because as soon as I saw her pouch today, I knew she needed that vet apointment. No longer was her pouch "inside out" It was back in, but the opening of her pouch was raw and infected. This has never happened before, but it was really bothering her and no longer would she allow her joeys to nurse. I had to feed them this afternoon, and hopefully she's allowing them to nurse since we got back from the vet. I have to watch close though. But she loves her babies, you can tell, she just needs some help. The instructions from the vet was to use neosporin and also gave me a bit of Bufranoraphine, which I think is usually used after neuters, and is to hopefully allow her to get a break from the pain to nurse. I'll keep everyone posted, but I have a catering event tonight and tons of homework...so it's gonna be a late night.

No, I have to apply a very small amount, and i kept her out in a seperate pouch when I applied it. I had to watch her so she didn't lick at it either. I'm tryin to be extremely careful. I'm making a huge 6 tiered cake while I'm typing, and with a pouch of gliders on my lap. I'm just not gonna tell them that I made their cake with a gliders close by. lol

My Mom used to make beautiful cakes. It was funny, she didn't usually make the kind that had writing on them, the ones she normally made were pretty elaborate. But she was mostly right handed but decorated cakes with her left hand, go figure. If she was asked to put writing on the cake I had to do it because she could not "write/decorate" with her right hand. And she could not put writing on the cake with her left hand.

I am usually booked every weekend to make cakes, or do dinners for people. I am definatley known for cooking around here. I am 14 and people find that interesting and fun. I am on the news tomorrow night at 6...go to kolnkgin.com tomorrow after 6 and you can find my story. I make very elaborate cakes and this one is very beautiful. One of my favorites

HELP!!! What do I do, as soon as I got home from 2 hours of catering this event, I can't find the other joey!!! NO where to be found. I am so sick and so sad. I don't know where it could be, and the other joey was in the pouch by itself. I pulled him out, fed him and put him back in with mom, who cleaned him and settled him in. I don't know what to do though. Pull him for good? And I have checked everywhere in the cage and out of the cage for the other joey. There are no signs of canibalizing the joey, but who knows i guess. She's not a first time mom, but that doesn't mean it's impossible, especially with the trouble she's been going through. HELP! I'm scared to death!

But no other joey!! i'm sure they must have eaten him, and it breaks my heart to even type that. I a stressed after a long day and still have tons of homework and glider care to tend to . Sorry i'm so crazy! i just need to scream. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Hey...you know, you are doing a GREAT job. Especially for a 14 yr old. Lots of adults have trouble breeding gliders, and here yours has this unexpected pouch thing going on...you took her to the vet, followed the instructions...and sometimes things like that happen. Even when nothing is apparently wrong to us humans. The gliders know what they're supposed to do, and they are being gliders. Do you know how to take care of the joey 24/7? I don't have advice on that but I'm sure there are some experienced members on here that can give you pointers. Rita is in chat right now, you can ask her real time, and everyone else in there too.

I am posting, insanely, I know, but this is the conclusion I've come to for the night, in my scattered mind. I HAVE to do my homework, and my mom is telling me that it has to come before the gliders...I know it really should, so I'll watch him, and make sure they won't eat him. I'm sad, but it's just what has happened. I would never expect it from any of my babies, but it's alright since It's the natural thing they would do, and since mom has had a tough time, there's not much else I can do. I wish there was.

I am so sorry to hear of this. Do everything the way it is on Suz site if you are gonna take the other one completely. I had one that was rejected at around the four week mark, and he is now a little over two and a half months. They become extremely attached to the human, but with the alternative, guess it is better. Good luck and please keep up posted.

If the mom cannibalized the other, you may not find it :( In the wild, they dispose of any remains so they don't attract predators. I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm glad she's doing better though!

yea, I'm feeding the joey, but he's in with mom. I'm hoping that since it's the outside of the pouch that's infected, that once we get it healed enough, she can continue to nurse.
