I've seen a lot of posts regarding the legality of owning Sugar Gliders as pets in the state of Georgia.

In looking for the answer to this question, I came across this website and this is what was said:

georgiawildlife.dnr.state.ga.us/content/displaycontent.asp?txtDocument=6&txtPage=3

Keeping Georgia Wildlife as Pets
Exotic Animals

The animals listed below are examples of the exotic species regulated under Georgia Law. The Department should be consulted before any exotic animals which are not normally domesticated in Georgia are acquired. Hybrids or crosses between any combination of domestic animals, wildlife, or regulated wild animals and all subsequent generations are regulated in Georgia and may not be held without a license. The exotic species listed below, except where otherwise noted, may not be held as pets in Georgia. This list is not all inclusive.

* Marsupials (wallabies, kangaroos, sugar gliders, etc.); all specie

Note: Sugar gliders are legal as pets if the owner possesses valid documentation that the animal originated from a source inspected and regulated by the United States Department of Agriculture.

etc....

Am I right in assuming that you can own a Sugar Glider in the state of Georgia as long as you can show proof that you bought it from someone who is inspected and regulated by the USDA?

I know the pet stores here where I am are regulated and inspected, but is this the case elsewhere?

I'm curious, anyone have any input?

Yes, just like in pennsylvania they ask you to get a permit to own them. So as long as they know you they can blame if something happens you can havce one. I like this is boggus!

Pennsylvania is no longer giving out new permits though. You don't need a permit in GA..just documentation you purchased from a USDA licensed breeder. Some vets won't see them w/o documentation either. There are some members from GA that do have vets on here and others that drive out of state.
