hi all, i am pretty new to this site but i had a question on my new suggie, i have had snickers for almost 2 months and he seems to really not like me. i try to hold him every night, i can not hold him in my hand and when i reach in his cage at all he crabs at me. i have tried bringing him out of his cage in his pouch and he either curls up and hides his face, or bites me if he can get a hold of any part of my skin.I mean his teeth come out of his jaw and he draws blood, he really bites hard and constantly crabs when i am trying to hold him. sorry for the long post but im a little frustated i want to hold him and play with him but he wants no part of me. any ideas for me?

Well mine did that the first two months...
Try puting a piece of your clothes in their cage with your scent.
Then where the pouch around your neck as much as possible.
MOST gliders will not let you just hold them...mine dont
They like to be climbing on things such as you.
I would suggest taking them into a glider safe room or bathroom and get them out of their pouch and see what they do? But make sure its when their awake and stuff.
And mine still crab at me all the time.
Especially if they are asleep and you try to mess with them.
It takes patience.
And yes their biting hurts very badly but just do a psst noise and keep doing that everytime they attempt to bite...

You can also feed them licky treats like yogurt off your fingers. It helps them learn to trust you.

well when i take him into the bathroom he runs away and jumps on stuff, he will jump on me but jumps off as soon as he can, but i was using my robe to put over his cag after i got up and dressed for work in the morning it did not seem to help but it has not been very long, but maybe i will try putting something into his cage that i wore and see if that helps

My babies do the same thing dont worry.
Its pretty normal..
sometime it can take up to a year for gliders to bond...it just depends on the gliders personality and attitude.
Just keep trying...and get them out and touch them a lot. even if they are running around...
It helps them get used to you

yes but wat if it gets too close to ur fingers and u get bite again?i wouldnt suggest doing it. just work slowly, i agree. i carried mine around in a sock cause it smealt like me. she slept in it, did everything in it. i had to wash it a lot. she didnt mind. just carry snickers around with you, let him use you as a tree and climb. i also took a dew rag raped it around my wrist and sometimes head lol. now she cuddles with it like a blanket and doesnt mind me at all. try these things!!

mine bite a lot if i try to restrain them...and you will get bit. there is pretty much no way to avoid that until they are comfortable with you.
just take all this advise=)

Probably not what you want to hear right now, but is he your only glider? They really should at least be in pairs...

I tried to bond with mine first and had the same problems. She crabbed and bit me. She was slow to come around. I did get her a friend and what a difference. She was so happy she had a friend. It was like having two little kids trying for moms attention. If one was on me the other had to be. If one licked me the other did..I don't know if it will help in your situation but it greatly improved mine.

When I got my mosaic female Dutchess about a week ago she crabbed a little bit. But I constantly have her with me, on night 1 i was offering her food by hand, if she crabbed I would pet her while she was in the pouch. Night 2 I let her explore leaving her cage door open allowing her to come out into the glider safe room. she was skiddish at first if my wife moved too fast or sneezed she would jump on me and crawl under my shirt (tiny nails leave lil red dots everywhere)
To make a long story short she crabbs now only when someone not in my family tries to touch her and is sweet as can be!
Yeah they can draw blood thats for sure!
Don't try to force your glider out of it's pouch.
Handle, care, carress, play, love your glider and it will in return love you back.
Dutchess get excited to see me, wife and 4 yr old daughter.
And loves to go out with us!
