It's OK to feed them cottage cheese and it's OK to give them other cheeses along with a combination of other foods.
As hind-gut fermenters, which enlarged caceums, gliders have the ability to break down all kinds of foods from pollen grains to gooey saps. Cheese does not over-tax their systems but of course don't over-do it. I mean too much of any one food is not a good idea...
So far, the notion that sugar gliders are "lactose intolerant" is not substantiated by any credible sources I have been able to identify in my research. At present, the notion appears to be an internet myth.
After all, they live on milk for the 15 week pre-weaning process so it's not like milk and by association, milk by product, are off limits.
We will continue to look into this because it seems to be a recurring issue that a lot of people are concerned about. If we find out anything new we will share that data.
