Ok well I've decided to make a separate cage for the new glider that I will be getting in a little more than a month. I'm thinking of PVC pipe and some wire mesh. My question is: What type of mesh should I use? I have the option of an all plastic mesh or metal. I tried finding plastic-coated metal mesh but couldn't. I would use the plasic but I'm just afraid of the possibility of them chewing through it, so metal would be better. But it's bare metal with no paint or coating. I could paint it, but I'm not sure which paint would be best. So any suggestions? I'm really worried about one chewing through it and escaping.

I found a post by gypsyNnightcrawlersMOM on page 7 dated Feb. 18 as "PVC CAGE" that you might want to check out and see if some of those who responded to that post might be able to help. I would have linked it but not sure how to do that. I do page searches sometimes just to see what i can find. Hope this helps.

umfan92, you can order the PVC-coated metal mesh from Klubertanz (www.klubertanz.com). I just made one for my gliders that was a little overboard (my plans are posted on another site). For a cage that's 6' high, 4' wide and 2' deep plus the tools and rings, I think total cost was just under $200 plus shipping. I paid $260 including shipping but that included a couple water bottles, 4 wall-mounting food dishes and some other accessories. You can save about $21 per foot you take off the height so maybe $160 plus shipping for a 4'x4'x2' cage.

Thank you for the info but if it's $160 then I can buy a bigger cage that's much nicer than what I could build. Buying all the materials at a hardware store would cost me about $20-25 for a large cage. I'm probably just going to order the mesh online so that I know that's safe and they can't get out. I can buy PVC pipe for cheap and make the frame out of that and that's safe. Thanks for the website and suggestions!

Hey. I got my plastic coated chicken wire at home depot for REALLY cheap. You might check over there first. They come in 5ft x2ft rolls. I used 3 total for my cage. HTH!
