Ok I took a horrible pic on my phone and will txt or email it to whoever wants to try to help but since I'm only on my phone I can't post it! Today I've had my gliders in the bonding pouch with me all morning. I've been touching and petting them and clipping their nails when they let me. I've also been trying to check out their bellies because the previous owner told me one of the girls was pregnant. I posted pics of the bigger girls belly a few days ago but today when she would let me I noticed it looks like something is sticking out of her pouch. She won't let me get to close and there is no way a Joey would be big enough to come out yet. Her stomach has no noticible lumps or movement. I got a pic of it on my phone.. But if anyone is willing to try to help my email is frogmonkeys@gmail.com

When I get to work tonight I can post the pic.. But that won't be till like 3 am pacific time... I'm just worried...

I emailed her back earlier with this:

"It is hard to see but, It looks like a prolapsed pouch. That's just where part of the lining of the pouch is sticking out. Sometimes that happens if she was grooming the area. You also sometimes see that when they're nursing and after the joey is out of pouch. It usually goes back in on its own. I will post it and see what others think."

Then I sent a follow up email saying that if there's odor, discharge or discoloration, that could be something else entirely.

One of my girls had something that look very much like that. I waited for her to push it back in and after 2 days I took her to the vet and she took a q-tip and just pushed the lining back in. The next day it was out again I put it back with a q-tip very carefully and it has not come out anymore.

here are a couple more pics I was able to get by luring her to stand up with a meal worm.. I checked when I gave them their food again tonight and it looks like it is still poking out. I guess I'll see when I get home in the morning. I know at work I have dealt with human having prolapsed.. areas. and with them we just glove up and push it back in so if she hasn't gotten it back in herself I don't know if she's comfortable enough with me to try to put it back in, hopefully she is, but also hopefully she can do it herself.

Someone also emailed me that maybe it might be a nipple but she hasn't had any joeys oop yet so I doubt it could be that. Right?

Do not forget that we are not vets and you should always see a vet if you are concerned about your animal's safety.

Lol oh I know. It just happened today. It's never been like this before so I just freaked thinking her insides were coming out or something. Or that she had a dead Joey hanging out from there. I'm going to check it again in the morning but and if it's still out than I will take her up to our local vet. I know one of the vets there did study small animals while he was in school so I'm hoping he can help. If not then a trip to Portland will be happening this weekend when I have a day off.

Unfortunately, small animals are normally placental animals. When you are dealing with marsupials, especially when it includes either the pouch or pregnancy, I suggest going to an exotic veterinarian who specializes or has experience with marsupials of some form (even opossums). They just aren't like eutherian mammals when it comes to the female parts or even their.....well poop holes (we have two or three-depending on male or female-openings for our urine, feces, and well reproductive parts......they have one or two called a cloaca much like a bird or reptile). However, could someone post....I don't have the link right now......the vet contact numbers? You could take those to your vet (only vets can call those numbers) so that if he/she has a question they can contact thos experienced vets. (Sorry guys but would you mind posting the numbers just once more?)

Ok so yesterday I didn't have time to actually pull her out and try to look at her pouch. But today she's sleeping in her bag in my lap and let me touch it. It's not sticking way out anymore but it just looks like the pouch opening had a little fold or lip? I hate to compare it to a female human but.. Sorta reminds me of.. Well. I hope no one gets offended but of a little labial fold? I've called around and the closest vet that deals with gliders is an hour and a half away. She doesn't seem affected by it at all though..no odor. No signs of irritation. She acts like it isn't even there. And it is just a part of the pouch opening. I can see that it is attached and just a nub/flap of skin there... Do gliders have "lips" on their pouches?
