We noticed last night one of our gliders looked like her pouch was inverted, tonight it was still the same and we took a closer look and it looks like clear sacks with little white/cream dots in it. Has anyone seen this before?
Is it possible to get a picture? Sometimes the pouch lining does get a bit inverted but it usually goes back on its own. If there are white patches, sores, crustiness, odor, etc... that could be a pouch infection. Has she nursed recently?
I was JUST looking at 'symptoms of a sick glider' on Suz' Sugar Glider site and an inverted pouch was listed as a symptom. The picture included looked very similar to yours as well. If I were you I'd definitely take your glider to the vet to get it checked out. o_____o
edit: On second thought the picture on the website looked more severe than yours... but I mean I tend to be overly worried/cautious when it comes to these things.
I personally think it looks pretty normal...especially in the clear pics. The picture Suz has on her site, I don't think looks anything like this. Here's an old thread about pouches as well:
My guess is she was aggressively grooming and it will go back in within a day or two. If not, or if you see any other symptoms as mentioned, then I'd seek a vet's care. Although, if you're ever unsure, the vet is always the best bet.
I think she probably did it. Obviously, I can't say for sure but have you ever seen a female clean her pouch? Freaked me out the first few times! They can open them so big. They aren't pretty inside. That's for sure!
My gliders have also gone around for a few days with a stretched out, weird looking pouch after a grooming session. It goes back to normal after a day or two.
Maybe if you were looking inside a human mouth. Did you look at the link I posted above with Kazko's picture in it? I've seen my girls look exactly like the clearer picture the original poster put up also. I think it does look normal. Only a vet can say with 100% certainty. I'm just going on my experience...and other peoples.
I'd say a vet check is in order. It could well be a yeast infection. I've heard stories on another glider site that turned out real bad. We are NOT vets and can't really advise you on how serious the issue may be so please have her vet checked, better safe than sorry.
