I asked in the poll section, but no one answered me: As a couple, my boyfriend and I decided we want two more gliders. We are looking to get two more, together, within the year so everyone is still young (hoping that will help with intros) and also the new gliders will have each other in quarantine for company (i felt sooo bad for nyx when she was alone) I was wondering what would be THE BEST pair to get. I have a 15month old neutered male and an almost 3 month old female currently... I know 2 males is a no, so two females or one male and one female? If I get one male, he will definitely be neutered. We are already putting the $ aside for the gliders, vet visits, neutering (if needed), and new supplies. I just was wondering what experienced glider owners feel would be the best additions *And yes, I know they may not all get along. I would get a second cage and house both pairings seperately.*

Something_To_Believe_In Face Hugger 647 Posts That you should have more females than males is a MYTH. In fact, my calmest and most loving colonies have more males than females. The only time you should have more females than males is when the males are intact. Once neutered, you can have as many boys as you want in the colony without any issues, so long as thier personalities match. Here is more info on this issue for ya: http://thesweetspot.forumotion.net/t1212-having-more-males-than-females?highlight=males
I am blessed to have many trios, quads and colonies in my home. The most well adjusted and loving of these are a trio of neutered boys (who are not related), a colony of 8 that is 4NM/4F, two trios that are 2NM/1F and a colony of 8 that is 5NM/3F. So, really, get the gliders that you enjoy their personalities. I would suggest getting them from a reputable rescue home, because then you will know their personalities ahead of time. I just was afraid for little Nyx, but all the males will be neutered. (if I get another male) Thanks And thanks everyone else!! We shall have to ponder. We need to save anyways so we will have time to pick the right duo (or maybe trio, you never know with rescues)
I have a colony that is 2 neutered males and 1 female. They are all as happy as can be. As long as the males are neutered the number of males to females doesn't seem to matter too terribly much. The biggest thing is whether they get along and you can never tell that until they are together and it can change over time. Anyone who keeps gliders together should have an extra cage that would do in a pinch to separate their gliders for awhile/permanently in case they start fighting. I think this is even more true of larger colonies as there is more room for group dynamics to cause one of the gliders to be picked on. As long as you are prepared to split them up if they do have issues then any gender combination (where all males are neutered) could work. hottness Super Glider 240 Posts
quote:

quote:
this makes me happy, I have a friend who has been trying to rehome his gliders and I kept saying I was wanting them. As of right now, we dont have the room for two full size cages if it came down to them not working out though.....BUT I can maybe just sacrifice more space in the guest bedroom for it if needed. haha BlackDrappa Fuzzy Wuzzy NY, USA 1876 Posts
quote:

quote:

quote:
this makes me happy, I have a friend who has been trying to rehome his gliders and I kept saying I was wanting them. I know you will make an educated decision on what's best for both you and the gliders.
