In, ahem, "closely examining" all of PPP's statements to me about my baby, one of them was that all gliders tend to start out grey and most will take on different shades as they mature. I had expressed a desire to see her head towards chestnut brown cause the demo guy had one that color which was just ADORABLE. :)

Do their coats really change at all over time? Can diet or other factors impact this?

I love her no matter what, just curious :)

If they start gray and turn brownish, it's due to poor diet. *Most* of the time, they stay the color they are as joeys. Unless you've paid for an actual Cinnamon glider, they should not be reddish/brown.

Gliders are suppose to be grey. This way they would blend in with the Eucalyptus bark. Typically a grey glider is healthy and when they are grey with brown spots or turn brown they are on a bad diet and this should be addressed immediately.

There are such things as red gliders but they typically come out of pouch a tone of red. The Red Series of gliders include lions, cinnamon's, brown beauties, and buttercream's. They stay a warm color their whole lives. http://www.petsugargliders.com/colorbreeding.php

The only gliders I know off that change color are platinums. They "powder out" so to speak. Platinum gliders are not red or brown but mostly white in color.

Diet effects gliders a lot and it is very obvious in their fur. Some gliders in the wild will be brown toned sometimes due to food sources but this is just monetarily.

With the way PP travels I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't the same guy that I saw here. He too had a beautiful tannish/brown glider that was HIS.

I have since learned that it was no doubt a Cinnamon Glider.

They can get that color-ish from a bad diet but the fur is usually cracked and the brown tones don't go to the root and is usually splotchie.

Look up Cinnamon gliders and see if that's what you saw.
