Yes, but I wouldn't feed a lot of them. They need other fruits.

Yes.... altho there is debate that they can cause liver damage as they can in dogs.

I did my own research and found it's the skin that is believed to do this in dogs and my gliders don't eat the skin so I allow them to eat grapes when I have them in the house which amounts to maybe once a month in the Spring & Summer months.

Some people choose not to risk it and don't feed them at all. I would suggest you do your own research and make your own informed decision, but yes, gliders can eat them as in they are not toxic so if your glider snatched one and ate it and your worried,...don't be.

I've been feeding grapes since 1997 but do it sparingly. In fact, I dont even feed much for fruits anymore. They are lucky to get a fruit once a week.

Yes love the "nibbler tapes too" !!!!!

Our vet cites the ASPCA literature on the subject of grapes and says it's not worth the risk. So we avoid grapes. There are plenty of other fruits to feed :-)

Grapes have been known to cause renal failure in a few domestic animals. One of my friends lost two skunks a while back and the vet passed it as a direct result from eating grapes.

As i'm unsure I just don't think it's worth the risk, mine have never eaten grapes and I don't think they're particularly bothered lol, but they are your animals so ultimately it's down to your own judgement.

There is no written evidence that gliders will die from eating grapes but to be honest there isn't really much written evidence on a lot of things regarding gliders.

I read an article on Suncoast Sugar Gliders that mentioned grapes could possibly cause kidney and liver issues with gliders. Since I read that article, Luna hasn't been getting grapes. I worry about her. I mean, she's happy and healthy, but she's so small and so fragile. I don't want anything to happen to her. That being said, I don't remember the article actually presenting supporting evidence (i.e. documented cases of gliders having problems due to grapes, or scientific studies of the effects of grapes on gliders). Even still, I don't want to chance harming her in any way. And Luna really never liked grapes in the first place, so she doesn't mind.

I've had this bookmarked forever:

I don't know that anyone can prove or disprove if they're harmful. I personally choose to err on the side of caution. It's up to each to read up to make their own educated decisions so I'm certainly not saying whether anyone should or shouldn't feed them.

I did make a post on this that I think got taken the wrong way by a lot of people lol but the basic point was that every glider is different.

Two gliders could eat grapes, one glider dies from them, one glider is fine. Does that mean that grapes will kill all gliders? No. Does that mean that grapes are fine for all gliders? No. It completely depends on the individual.
Does that make sense?

Yes Helen it does. I rarely feed grapes. We used to get a huge bag and my kids don't eat them fast enough and the boys couldn't do much damage to them either. Now I have to buy little seasonal fruit cups and give out of that. It's easier and cheaper than buying entire fruits....plus, I like to nibble on their fruit as I prep dinner for them.
quote:

Lol, I'm the same! I can't afford to be buying Papaya's and Mango's for myself! So I have a sneaky nibble on theirs when I make a batch :)

I have given grapes once. Mine didn't even attempt to eat them. I had them on my plate and tried giving them one, but they sniffed and left. So I avoid them.
