Me and my mom where thinking maybe it would be just eaiser to build a cage and then buy a baby sugarglider from a breeder. so has anyone here ever made a cage by themselves or know how to make a cage step by step because we can not find anything on makeing cages anywhere on the whole internet.

So no luck on finding a sugarglider iv emailed a couple people and they send me more pictures and info but dont reply back to any more of my answers

I'd check for Local breeders, and maybe even an exotic pet store. Makeing a cage sounds really really REALLY hard. I'd just buy a used one from like crage's list or something. When you get your glider, feel free to message me any time with questions. I have had my baby for a week now, and things are going great!

Hello I just did about 10 hrs of research there are VERY IMPORTANT precautions you need to take! First and foremost would be the type of wood- Pine is readily available BUT IT'S TOXIC to sugars.Douglas Fir is a perfect wood! Next is dimensions- They say you need taller vs. wider however a great combination of both is ideal. For example the one I just built is 6ft tall 4ft wide and 6 ft deep Why the extra length? Because I found that gliders can glide over 150 ft in the wild and for me 36 inches is just cruel. So my Glider (seeking a mate) has Plenty of room to play and exercise. Also vertical climbing apparatus is very important- Climbing ropes.
Next is the wire I have found many of the coated wire is toxic for them. I used 1/2" by 1/2" opening wire. ( you will need to use white vinegar and water to remove excess zinc from the wire.)Contact me if you need a diagram for construction.
I don't know it all but this is what I learned. Hope it helps...

FloridaSugarBreeder --- Did you use a galvanized wire for your cage? If so be aware of the fact that glider urine will react with the metal and rust will quickly become a problem. Also, when a glider rubs against the wire while marking the cage, the galvanized wire can cause irritation and has caused problems with a number of gliders.

Did you seal all of your wood before assembly of your cage? If not glider urine will eventually soak into the wood and you will be unable to remove the smell.
