I'm sorry to bother you all again with this question but I would really like to somehow find a way to more or less guage the age of my sugar glider. Obviously I don't need to know precisely. I was told he was 7 months old when I got him. I need to know if that's more or less correct and what are the characteristics of a younger glider versus slightly older. Does anyone have information on this? This will be my last post about this and I'm sorry for all the others. lol Thanks everyone.

There's really no way to determine a glider's age. Someone with much experience with gliders and who has seen them at all stages can possibly guess "under a year" or "over a year" but - beyond that, it isn't really possible.

For my rescues, I celebrate their birthdays as the day I got them. For example, when I got Jack he was "about 2" according to his previous owner. So - I celebrated his 3rd birthday when he had been with me a year.

Take some pics and post them. I haven't read your other post so I don't know if you say there how long you've had the glider. If it's only been for a short while and he's only seven months old, we MIGHT be able to tell something. Otherwise though, there really isn't a way of knowing for sure, I don't think.

Based on the shape of his face, and the fact that he has a bald spot, but also his relative size, I'd say that 7 months is roughly accurate.

He is almost definitely under a year old.

Thank you so much! I just need someone more experienced to tell me that. Even though I know there's no way to know for sure, I now know that what they told me what most likely right. Thank you!

Ok I re-read what I said before and I realized I made a huge mistake! I'm sorry! What I meant to say was "I needed someone more experienced than myself to tell me that." It seems like I meant I wanted someone more experienced than Dahlia_2020 but that was just a spelling error. Thank you for the reply and I trust it completely and what I meant was I just needed someone like you (Dahlia_2020) to put me at ease and thank you for doing that. I just wanted to clarify that. Sorry lol.

Lol! Sweetie, don't worry about it. Didn't even notice it. It's all good, hon...

But yes, that absoluely adorable and just BEAUTIFUL baby boy you have looks very much under one year in those pics. So it looks like you were told the truth about his age.

He truly is lovely, though... That fluffy tail is unbelievable! And I love that pic of him asleep and on his back. Just too cute.

Oh he is a cutie for sure! He looks like my two girls who are both under a year old. Okay well they don't have a bald spot or man parts but you know what I mean.

Quick question-is he by himself? Do you plan on getting him a glider buddy?

I have thought about it. I know they shouldn't be alone. I don't really know if I could get another one though for various reasons. :/

I agree that he is very young - under a year. And I also agree that he is adorable! The very first thing that came to my mind when I saw his picture was "Look at that gorgeous tail!"

Why do you feel like you can't get him a buddy?

I'm going to tell you right now, he NEEDS a companion. No glider should be alone. Not only will they be depressed but that depression can lead to self mutilation which can be anything from pulling their fur out to actually chewing on themselves to such a point that they cause severe damage. But regardless of the more extreme possibilities, there is no doubting that a glider is lonely and depressed if they are alone. You can't spend enough time with him to make up for a glider buddy. These guys are colony animals. They NEED other gliders.

I would hate the idea of your precious baby suffering from the lack of another glider in his life.

Either way, he'll need to be neutered. If you get him a girl friend, of course, they'd make babies; that can lead to lots of complications. If you get him another boy, they both should be neutered to make them less aggressive. Check Craigslist, Hoobly and other sources for a glider needing re-homing near you. Good luck!
