This is one of the hardest posts I have ever made. Probably because I feel I am to blame. I lost my Boomer last Tuesday. He escaped the cage & the dogs hurt him. Then he disappeared. It was 3 days before I found him. He was in the electic wiring of the stove.
Boomer was always an adventurous glider. Loved to get away & explore. Twice he was able to scoot out of the cage when I opened the door. Almost impossible to catch. My house is far from "glider safe" so I have taken so many precautions to keep them in the cage & to keep the dogs seperate from the gliders. I don't know how he got out. Didn't even know he was out until the dogs started chasing him. In less than 30 seconds, I had the dogs in their pen but couldn't find Boomer. His cage has 11 small doors & 5 large ones. I had used a heavy duty wire tie to lock all the small doors & 2 of the large ones. He has managed to remove a wire tie from one of the small doors on the side of the cage so that may have been how he got out. Or, he could have scooted out when I fed them. I really don't know.
I have refastened all of the doors on the cage & put a double door up between the den & dinning room so that if a glider gets out, he can't get to the dogs. I had a gate there so the dogs couldn't get to the gliders.
I feel so bad for Kiwi. She has a joey in pocket, due in Dec. Last night was the first time either of the girls even tried to play during 'play time'. They would just hide. They are eating good & playing at night. They just don't trust me. I think both girls were in love with Boomer. Even though Lady was in a seperate cage.
I lost one earlier this year and will never get over feeling like it was my fault. Plenty of people tried telling me that accidents happen and there was nothing I could do and I'm passing that on to you. I wish I didn't know how you feel, truly. I'm very sorry. :(
I had a real close call with the toilet when I first got mine (4 years ago) and almost putting a baby in the washing machine 6 months later. I still shiver about those incidents. You learn.
Im so sorry Kyro! The same thing happened to Diesel a few 3 weeks ago. I still cant help but feel like it was all my fault. I also wish I didn't know how you feel. Im so sorry. <<hugs>>
I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope this allows other owners to realize how something can happen in and instant and you're loved one can be gone wether it be a pet or family member.
