One of my previous few posts I did mention that we got a new friend for Babie. We got her on May 31st.. today I saw that her pouch is buldging. I was worried maybe she is sick. I told my co-worker about it and she replied that maybe she is pregnant. How could she be pregnant when we have a girl, Babie. Tonight when I came back from work, I saw that her pouch is moving. So I have really no idea what to look for and how to prepare if she is pregnant. Anyone out there can help me with more information so I can prepare for the new comer.

Thanks.

Wow - so she must have been housed with a male before you got her.
If you can see her belly moving...well...she's probably prego for sure. If she will let you, you can try and feel the bump lightly -
Read up on http://www.suzsugargliders.com/ - you'll want to read about rejected joey's as well, and order a rejection kit to have on hand just in case.
Give her extra protein too:)
You'll be fine - lol - just breathe

Joeys grow in the pouch for 10 weeks so sounds like she was already pregnant when you got her, as mentioned. If she is bulging and it's moving around, there's no "might be" about it. My guess is you'll be seeing a joey in the next 2 weeks.

Okay.. today I have a chance to slightly opened her pouch. We confirmed seeing the Joey inside there hairless. It is 10 weeks now and we really have no idea what is going to happen. Will the Joey automatically climb out from the pouch? I have given extra protein every night like extra chicken, eggs rotation. What else I have to give her. Also we don't have the male here.. so who is going to take care of the Joey when the mom going out to eat? She has a cagemate, a big one, 118 gram weight... will she eats the Joey? Do I need to separate them now? All advice are welcome.

If your two girls are getting along well the other glider will probably help momma with the joey by staying in the pouch with the baby while momma gets food and a little wheel time. Just keep an eye out when the baby comes oop to make sure the joey does not get left alone in the pouch too long. The joey will cry and momma will come running back to the pouch pretty quickly showing she is taking good care of her baby.

please... Don't do that.

If you are not sure take her to your vet and let the vet tell you. If you open the pouch at the wrong time, two things could happen:

1. You could, by mistake, dislodge a joey from the teat. If he or she is still immature and not able to latch back on to the teat, it will die.

2. you could upset mom and cause her to stress-out and kill the babies.

You can handle her without messing with the pouch, though. You can let her out for play, let her jump, let her run on the wheel and feed her treats. She needs play to release stress. you can also feed her more protein like bits of cooked chicken and cooked egg.

i give my breeding gliders more liquids when they have joeys in pouch.
i buy green juice and add a little nectar and bottled water to it or organic apple juice with bottled water added to it and organic maple syrup(40 parts syrup to 1 part bottled water) in addition to their plain drinking water.
i get nectar from suncoast sugar gliders and usually sprinkle a little on these homemade nectars.
give your glider extra portions of the foods/diet you feed also.

i buy possum milk from suncoast and do sprinkle a little on their vegs./fruits a few times a week when they have joeys in pouch.

i find the extra liquids, etc. helps with a good supply of milk to feed the joeys when they come oop.

good luck,
nancy in detroit

If you do not see a pom pom and not spot on the head, it is a female. Not to mention the pouch instead of pom pom. The pom pom is very evident. Hope for all the best!!

Thanks...

This is the first time holding him taking picture of his belly and never have doubt nor ask the vet when she was a girl. We totally believed in what the seller told us. Before the new glider arrived, he has a companion but she never been pregnant. Maybe she is a boy too. I have to neuteur him as soon as possible to avoid future pregnancy.
