I've been listening to my girls recently, and I've been hearing a lot of hissing. The first time we heard Pepper hiss, it was a UTI and we got it fixed right away. This time, I thought it was Eleanor, but tonight we witnessed Pepper hissing. Right when we put her back in her cage, she came out of her pouch and ran around, and then went up to Desmond's cage (they're next to each other) and starting a hissing-bark, hissing-bark type sound. She wasn't urinating, so we took that out of the equation, and we decided to put her in Desmond's cage. She immediately climbed into his "upstairs" pouch and kept hissing, and he came out of his "downstairs" pouch and joined her in the other one. She stopped hissing, and now they're snuggling and chirping. I'm not sure what this meant - some people say it's a mating call, but I don't think they're ready because Desmond isn't even five months old yet, and his hair isn't missing from his head/chest/genital areas, plus he just seems too small. She could possibly be mature, she's a month and a half older than him so there is the possibility of an earlier maturity. So maybe she is wanting to mate? Otherwise, what I've also read is that it's just a simple call to a friend, though she does live with Eleanor so I'm not sure on why she would want more attention from him. I hope he's not gonna break the girls bond :(
