how do you get this glider color???

Posted by: lovegliders
-----
I found a picture of my dream glider on "thepetglider" website. here is the url: www.thepetglider.com/index/sugar-glider-colors/sugar-glider-colors.html It is the one labeled platinum/platinum champaigne.

I have seen other champaignes and they do not have so much white on them, more grey all over. My questions are: how is this produced (what glider colors produce this color)? And is it reproducable; meaning if you had 2 of these (or if it is a simple dominant, then if you had one and a standard) would they produce ones alot like it, or would there be tons of variation in the coloring of the joeys? I understand ethics, I am just trying to understand the genetics of this color. All input appreciated.

so thanx to u all ive made up my mind that this weekeend when i go home im going to change my gliders diet drastically!! um he will definitely be eating vegetables and i will try to balance the whole high calcium foods need as much as i can... i will try the blending and freezing method and if he accepts it i will be soo happy.. it would make it easier on my mother and brother to feed my glider. and while im at it why not have fun!!! and try new flavor combinations.. n ways to trick him into eating the veggies.. i cant wait to go home now n experiment!!!!

Hello, I am new to the group and wanted everybody to know a little about me and my three babies. My name is Sarah and my babies are Bella, Sophie, and Petey. We might have some more little ones in the near future because Petey and Sophie have been mating. I am so excited to see the babies. Does anybody know how long it takes for them to come out of the pouch?

 Life with my babies!!

Well it's been a couple months since we brought home Kyra and then Gabriel. And I have to say I really don't know how I lived my life before I had them! They fill my life with so much joy and you can feel the appreciation and love from them each and every day. Kyra started out a very pouch protective little girl. I couldn't even touch the outside of her pouch with out crabbing. Now I can actually put my hand in the pouch and I only get a warning nibble if I'm irritating her. Gabriel actually groomed me a little today for the first time...and until he began chewing on my cuticle it was sooo very precious!!! Actually even after....lol.....but anyway I can't imagine my life without my 2 little babies.....they are just a dream!! I'll keep ya posted!! Huggles!!

 Miss my boys!

Posted by: snusie

We're leaving shortly to go out of state for a funeral, and on Monday my brother took the boys north to Weatherford for the week. I miss them so much! It's too quiet when I get up; yesterday I set aside some salad for them before I remembered ... I'm not worried about the care they'll get, it'll be so excellent that they may not want to come home! I can't wait til they do, though. It's just not right. Too too quiet. I don't like it.

 Mr. Fella's new MANSION!

Posted by: lakesRus84

So.... we are working with Fella constantly.. for the first time last night, he actually climbed right onto our hands to eat. Huge milestone for him! I cried.... of course, i'm a bit of a sap... anyhow, the hubby is taking a 100 mile drive today to go pick up Fella's new house! We just got him 4 days ago. He's been kept in this little tiny bird cage his whole life, and that's about to change... alot of things that Fella has known as "life" are changing actually.... he's gonna know all about what it means to have a good/happy sugar glider existance... these little animals are such blessings really. I'm not able to have anymore children, and of course my hormones constantly remind me that i WANT a baby... Fella is like the baby i can't have!!!!!! I'm so thankful. Will update again, Erika

Beware of sugar glider cage doors

Posted by: kazko
-----
Most of the cages we get are made in China by people who are not really trying for best quality or design for our animals. This can lead to some unintended side effects.

For instance, what do our sugar gliders love to do when the door is open? Well mine love to come running, or climbing really. Any time I open a door, the critters come around from the side and always wrap a finger hold around the open door frame of the cage. Some of the cages have lots of space around the door frame so when it closes on a finger, no problems, and some dont.

I have one cage that is very bad on the sides. I have known this since I got it and have been very careful with it yet I still manage to get a finger in there once in awhile. If I werent being so careful with it, those fingers would have all been chopped off.

BAD DOOR

GOOD DOOR

Also, even when the door is wide open, a single clingy glider can grab the door, pull and accidentally slam it shut which could then cause severed fingers or limbs in all sorts of places around the frame. So be weary of this.

Many folks have those "budget" bird cages with the slide up doors. I used to have some of those and I cant tell you how many times that door came slamming down accidentally when it was not supposed to. That is enough force to break a glider neck, chop a foot or at least hurt somehow. So I recommend extreme caution with this style of cage door as well.

The good thing about the budget doors is that they can be reworked to swing out simply by bending some of the metal tabs or adding a little bit of homebrew if needed. What you want to do is make it so that the door has to be lifted one inch to unlatch and then it swings open on one of the sides.

So be careful when closing your doors on your gliders and plan for accidents.

 just my suggies and me

First thing is first my name is Emilia. I am the very proud mama of three suggiebears (Gabi (fat girl gabi), Num-Nums and Shy). They're each about a year old. I've had my babies for about 5 months now and we have bonded pretty well with in that time. They like to bark at me if I don't pay attention to them when they want me to. Especially Gabi, she's my little adventurer and she loves to get out and explore her room.

Today we are going on an outing to find materials to reinvent their home. I've been looking online for some ideas and have come across some very interesting cages. With all the ideas I've gotten I think I'm going to need a bigger cage! As soon as I'm done with my little project I'll post pictures and would love to get some feedback!

 Together at last!

Posted by: Essika

So Tazz has been neutered, I'm waiting on the results from the float and the smear and the babies are finally TOGETHER!!!!

They have been in the same cage since friday and other than some appetite issues, they seem to be doing alright... They sleep with their arms around each other and they love playing together... Next it's time to get started on their wheels and a massive cage!

Wish me luck! I'm gonna need it....

Oh and if you owned a lone glider and now she/he has a friend go post in the topic "How I met my friend" I love reading the stories, they are bittersweet and I think it's an awesome thing to be able to tell it from the gliders perspective ^.^
