Nov 24, 2008 New gliders Posted by: snusieBoy, the transition went smoothly. Rick and I met Megan in Burleson, she had a homemade cage (that doesn't seem to be too sturdy and it stinks! Gotta wash it today...) and a box of food and some toys etc. The babies were in a cat carrier with a towel and a tiki hut. The larger one allowed me to rub his tummy until the smaller one crabbed and lunged. Protecting his brother? For now I'm going to call them Cutie and Pie, Cutie being the smaller one and Pie the one who's as sweet as. Have to come up with good names, I don't like Quimby and Quigley, too I don't know yuck. They didn't seem at all stressed. Ate a little, then started playing. Maybe having their familiar things helped, I don't know. Of course, they have always been treated well, you can tell, and that helps a lot. I put Shikoni's pouch in so they would be secure when I take them to the vet later this morning. They were in it before I could get it tied to the cage bars! Little buggers. This will be a busy morning. I have to take them to Temple at 8:30; the receptionist told me on the phone that I could wait while the neutering is done and take them home. I also have to go get mealies while I'm in town, and also take Domino to his vet to have the staples removed from his leg. Boy oh man, I probably won't get home til noon! I hope their neutering goes as well as Shikoni's! They seem to be healthy enough. More later.
Nov 21, 2008 Robin Opossum loses her pouch Posted by: kazkoTo remove the last tumor from Robin's tummy area, the vet was forced to cut away her pouch. So Robin is no longer a marsupial and she probably doesnt have any remaining mammary glands. I hope this will end her need of surgeries to remove tumors.
Nov 20, 2008 New Family Members Posted by: Goldwinger We have owned our new sugargliders for 1 week and 2 days. We bought our first girl on 11/11/08 and at first I was afraid I'd made a big mistake as she was young (12 weeks old) and terrified and I wasn't sure I could take care of her. Then on 11/16/08 we decided to purchase what we thought was another girl. Well the guy at the pet store wasn't very bright and we learned 2 days later it was a boy. Well now we know why they took to each other so quickly. We named our new family members Cosmo and Luna. Cosmo is such a wonderful sugarglider. He is friendly and active and fun and we enjoy our tent time with him tremendously. Luna our little one is still very shy but we managed to get her in the tent today and she has calmed down a little. We hope in time that she will love us as much as Cosmo does. I have not set up an apponitment to get my little guy neutered yet and hope until we do that Luna is to young to have babies but I firmly believe in never say never. This is the story about our new family and my daughters love them very much. Right now they are playing tent time with them. This is all so new to me and I've been reading as often as I can about sugargliders on the internet but am excited about being here to learn more first hand information from sugarglider families here. Nov 20, 2008 Robin Opossum to surgery again Posted by: kazkoDropped Robin off this morning for surgery again. She has another growth on her belly/pouch that needs to be removed. I believe they are growths from her mammary glands.
Nov 18, 2008 PLEASE HELP if you can Posted by: sadglideri just found this website last night and signed up today. i got my glider a year and a half ago because my roomate and i both really wanted a glider in our lives. the glider quickly bonded with my roomate and the two of them have always been close since. several months ago i moved out of our apartment and it didnt interfere with our glider, humphrey, or my roomate, because they had bonded. 2 days ago my roomate called me to her apartment right away. something was wrong with humphrey. her new roomate doesnt like gliders and doesnt like her to have humphrey out when she's home so their time together has decreased drastically. we thought thats why humphrey was acting so strage. he stopped self-cleaning, barely moved around, he would fall into his yogurt... after spending some time watching him we thought he might be blind. i took him to the vet today because she had to work and found out that he is blind. he literally just went blind within the past few days. he was fine and seeing just friday night (nov 14). i havent been involved in the gliders life very much because he mainly is her pet... but now all 3 of us are just miserable. humphrey is terrified of not being able to see and its affecting all of us. he barely moves around cause he doesnt know where he is going.. its just terrible whats happening... any encouragement or advice is so appreciated. Nov 5, 2008 My new addition Posted by: diana99So about two weeks ago I bought two sugar gliders. the thing is i went to the breeders to look at her male joey 13 wks oop and i saw her female, his twin sister and asked about her she said she wasnt plannin on selling the female cas she bites and crabs and couldnt bond with her but i convinced her anyways. so i went home with two joeys the male was super hyper so i named him stitch the female was shy n timid so i named her lilo. anyways now 2 wks later the male crabs ALOT its insane u look at him he will crab and bit me once. the female doesnt crab but is shy still. its funny im bonding better with the female more than the male but i am trying i still gotta by a tent fomr walmart or sumtin cas the one i got wont work. its a work in progress but never the less i love em already! Nov 2, 2008 suki,is very lonely Posted by: icystrom3022hello, I have a sugar glider named SUKI!I love her to death! But I am afraid she is getting a littel loenely and I ahve talk to some people in the chat room that I should get another one to keep it compny and they told me all about how to make sure they become friends((thank you rita!!!)) I live in FL,Tampa!! and if you know of any sugar gliders for sale plz's let me know!!!!! from, icystrom3022 Oct 23, 2008 Robin opossum is in the garage tonight Posted by: kazkoThe temp is supposed to be well below 50F tonight so I decided to move Robin into the garage. Took me some hours to collect all of the gasolene, chemical, fertilizer, car oils, most of the paints and other fuming junk and load it onto a large metro shelf with wheels. So when Robin is in the garage, the bad stuff gets parked outside. I also rearranged a bunch of stuff to make room for her large cage. Last night it got to 50F and the wireless temp probe in the base of her foam nestbox measured 65F so she had plenty enough body heat to keep herself well above 65F snuggled into her box at that outside temp. Nonetheless, 40F is a bit nippy so I figured she'd be best inside. It's now 54 outside but her garage nestbox is measuring 73 at the base, so she is prolly nice and toasty in her wraps.
Oct 15, 2008 My glider game Posted by: SGoldwhich is titled "Flying Furs", is under way. I just finished making/turning in my final storyboard and I'm getting excited seeing it all come together. It is due on November 19th so I need to get cracking. Programming will most likely start tonight or tomorrow :) Oct 14, 2008 Rodents to Marsupials Posted by: Dustin NealGreetings, I have been a pet rat owner for a couple of months now, but I have a strong feeling that when I get two sugar gliders in the future, they could easily take over my heart. I simply cannot stop looking at pictures and videos on YouTube! Honestly, I love rats! They are very social and very loving; I can never get away from their kissing and licking. But, what's really hard to deal with is that they only have a life expectancy of about two years. It's very sad. You get attached and then they die. They also have very bad health issues. Anyway, I can't wait till the day I get my gliders! I'm thinking about early 2009. However, I'm not making any set date. I already know who I'm going to get my gliders from. I'm stoked that such a good breeder is only a couple hours away. Cheers, Dustin Neal
