 Trial and error diets

Posted by: Klwallace12

My suggies are about 9 weeks old, or so I was told. I'm kind of convinced the previous owners had no clue. I have ordered mo than I can even track in the last few days for them and in the mean time have been trying to find replacement diets for the pellets they were on.

It's hilarious that when I went to the grocery store 90% of what was in my cart was for my suggies but moving on....day one of the new diet didn't go so well, they chose to eat pellets mostly and barely touched the food I prepared. After asking around I decided to try again. Today I decided to add cut up grapes and broken up chicken on top of the blended mix. My suggies not only ate more than I've seen them eat in four days but seem to have come alive. They have awesome amounts of energy. They're actually being super happy, their mood has completely turned around. I am excited about this change and can't wait to see how it affects their health.

I do realize after seeing some of the before and after posts that my suggies have some cracking, one more so than the other. And they don't seem to be as grey as they could be. I am hoping the diet helps this.

My tent and new cage should be coming soon, can't wait to decorate and really get some play time with my love bugs.

They climbin in yo cages, snatchin yo gliders up!

THEY'RE SO CRABBY! Poor babies, so upset that we woke them up in the middle of their 'night' and wrestled them into the bonding pouch to take home. Now that everything's not bustling around they're enjoying their sleep, with a few crabs here and there in response to me making noise around the house. In a few hours I'll put them in their new cage and let them get completely settled. Can't wait to see them up and about later tonight! <3

 Why are there so many?

Posted by: Persephone

There are so many Gliders for SALE. (I chose this word rather than REHOME bc its all about the Benjamins). Why? I am not talking about from a Breeder, which i have no problems with and will become one myself to produce healthy and beautiful babies that others can enjoy.. But why are there so many on rehoming sites.. They say that a good home is the best thing yet they are asking asinine amounts for untamed gliders and supplies that are not adequate. When I try to explain this, I get chewed out saying they only want what they put into them. Im sorry that you made a rash decision and jumped on the ScamWagon bc you saw a cute critter and didnt do your research BEFORE purchasing..but why should that Glider suffer any more than you have already made it? People think its a instant bond bc thats what they SEE.. They dont HEAR what the guy says.. they "can" do this if you take the time... And when their dreams turn into a little poof of air, they decide its Adios for the suggie...
A parakeet cage is NOT suitable.. and a heat rock is not necessary.. and Its not just PPP pets.. Its people just not being able to afford their cellphone bill so the Glider has to go. I dont ever try to TAKE anything. I do offer something bc I think that gives people Security, but I then have to do the vet visit and buy the adequate supplies if I dont have them plus the food it eats on top of the ones I already feed.. I just wish Humans werent so damned Selfish!

I need to find someone to buy my 13 week old female from me, I am not a good home for her I didn't know how much time they would take just to bond with, and being a single mom in the army I just can't do it and do not want her to live a life in a cage!!

Bring my gliders with me :)

Posted by: BattyCoda

I have been bringing BattyCoda and Frejya with me more recently.
It has been nice but of course today when I am at work and I dont have them with me I feel like I am missing something.

They went with me to Target on Sunday and with me to look for a new car on Monday. They did not make a peep until my boyfriend poked at them in the cage and they crabbed in the store. :) No one seemed to notice them at all which was nice but I did tell the post office lady I had them.

Batty and Frejya get along so well. They bonded to each other perfectly. They will both me 2 years old this coming January (batty on the 1st and frejya on the 26th).

I read on here that it is a good idea to weigh them every so often just to make sure they are at a healthy weight. What is typically for a male and a female at this age mine are at (1.5 years old).

Glad to be back on the forum after so long after I joined!

 Sugar Glider Nail Trimming

Posted by: viciousencounters

Cutting glider nails can be difficult, when starting out it can be hard to know what to do. Here are a few tips:

Use nail clippers that can easily fit in your hand, they should not be hard to control or slip, you should be able to clearly see the clear tips between the blades, and be sure they are sized appropriately since gliders hands are so tiny.
Example:

I keep my gliders in a pouch gently in my left hand, while holding one paw tightly between my thumb and pointer finger. I then clip the end of each nail carefully. It helps to keep their bottom against you so they do not back out of the hold.

When cutting nails be sure to only cut the clear tip, the rest is the quick and if cut they will experience pain and there will be blood, so be careful. There are 14 nails to be cut; 5 on each front paw and 2 on each back paw.

Be sure to look at the Nail Maintenance page in the gliderpedia for more information.
