I literally wanted to be sick after watching that video. I know most of you consider mice/rats as feeder food...yes they get eaten in the wild and most reptiles snakes etc eat them while in captivity. My snake gets fed frozen rats to reduce the chance of him becoming aggressive. However mice and rats make wonderful pets they are sweet loveable and every rat I've ever had was incredibly smart. I can't even believe what I'm seeing. I currently have 2 rats and Bailey has not been around them physically outside of a cage but he just hisses, never tried eating them. Also when I had a mouse my friend decided to "introduce them"...have them out at the same time and nothing happened. I would never support this. Trust me, I keep them seperate. But I could never imagine feeding mice to my glider, even if they were dead. I'm too much of an animal lover. Every kind of animal has respect from me even bugs. I know this probably sounds weird, but its how I was raised/ my outlook on things. When one of my rats were a baby she'd lay on my chest and give me kisses..she still does :) If rats weren't meant to be, or thought of as pets I dont think they would be sold as pets. I know places that sell feeder mice/rats&then pet mice/rats but you also cant buy a mouse/rat before a certain age unless they are feeders. Sorry, touchy subject! Mostly because I watched my mouse die, he died right on my chest. & I had to take care of him myself because there wasnt much that could be done. I also wouldnt want to feed mice to my gliders because mice are mostly mill bred and you never know what could be wrong with them....alright im done!

I'm just heartless.

Also... If you know what you're buying, it's no biggie. I buy from a well known company that's reputable for what they do. I know what I'm giving is safe.

The only reason I would worry about mice-- is the fact that in the wild, I just don't see gliders hunting mice/pinkies as prey. Gliders are arboreal, meaning they live up in the trees. I can imagine a glider who came into contact with a mouse-- would kill it and eat it as a me vs you thing-- just like they do frequently with other trespassing gliders.... but I just don't see this happening frequently.. I know wild gliders often eat small birds and eggs and stuff-- but bird meat is a little different than small animal meat. I'm sure it's fine for a few treats and etc, but I wouldn't do it too often. but then again-- who knows. That's just my preference. my vet-- yeah I know you're going to hate that I said this-- explained to me that I should be wary about feeding too much meat in general-- no red meats-- and to be careful not to <b>overfeed</b> chicken, since gliders in the past are not used to eating these kinds of foods, and may not have developed the stomach to properly digest them depending on when they were imported--how long they've been here-- etc. It makes sense though-- at least to me. too much live prey also hurts a lot of reptiles and things too-- from my understanding.. but what do I know.

That's not how they are.. attacking as a me vs. you. They may be arboreal, but they DO hunt mice in the wild.

Gliders, in the wild, DO eat eggs. This is why they need to have FIFTY PERCENT PROTEIN. It's what's most important in their diet, next to the calcium/phosphorus ratio.

No I was implying that since they eat eggs, and mice, chicken IS fine. Mine get chicken every other day and they have NOOOO issues with digestion.

I just had a very loved ball python pass away after 5 years with us. It was extremely heart breaking. We had no choice but to feed him live mice because he absolutely would not touch frozen. The vet told us that it's not uncommon for a ball python to refuse anything but live. So I raised mice to ensure the best quality. Unfortunately there is one other thing that is not too uncommon for live fed pets, my snake was bitten inside his mouth just as he caught the mouse and without any outword signs of illness, he died from infection just days later.

Please do not feed your sugar gliders live mice unless they are pinkies from reputable sources. Even small immature mice have teeth that can draw blood on human hands. I agree with some of the others, the risk to your precious pet is not worth the chance. There are so many other protein sources to choose from.

oh he said it was fine to eat it as part of a diet-- and even as treats, and that it was best to feed in baby food formula.. he was just saying to watch consumption when they begin to gain lots of weight-- but only bc of that one case he saw of that one glider who for whatever reason couldn't digest chicken.. but if your glider was gaining weight like that off of anything-- I could imagine anyone would stop. lol, this lady just thought he was healthier bigger.

I go to Pet Smart and buy Arctic Mice by T-Rex.

They're frozen pinkies. No chemicals, nothing. Safe and most trusted and recommended amongst the reptile/amphibian community and the glider owners I know who feed dead pinkies.

Pet Smart is talked about so negatively but it's for no good reason. I do my research before buying anything for the girls. So I know what I'm doing.

I do NOT feed it as a source of protein. I feed it as a treat. MAYBE 1x a month.

I can barely sand the sound of my gliders eating mealworms. The smacking drives me up a wall. I couldn't even imagine what the sounds would be from a pinky mouse.
