I went to get my first sugar glider today. She's two years old and has only had one other owner besides me. We named her Sassy, and she seems like she will warm up to me and my boyfriend very quickly. I'm just so shocked of what came out of the lady's mouth today tho. I've never even owned one before, and could tell I knew a lot more than she did.
She gave me a DVD on how to properly take care of them. It's from PPP! (boo) Then I asked what she liked to eat. She gave me a huge back of pellet food and said to make sure she has a full bull of these 24/7. She also proceeded to tell me every night to feed her 1/4 slice of bread, and a sliced apple. She also gave me vitamins and said about 2 times a week sprinkle some in yogurt and give it to her. So shocked.
Then she begin to tell me about the cage. The cage is a good size, would like a bigger one, but for only one it will be ok. [we are planning to get another one in about 2 weeks] She gave us two weals which are the good ones and one even has the nail file strips inside it. The thing that shocks me the most was were she told me she slept.
She pointed out a heat rock that was in the cage. She went on to explain that I need to plug in the heat rock and put the old rag she gave us over it on for her to sleep on. I know this is REALLY dangerous for the animal. She said it was a must tho. OMG....
Before we bought the glider, the lady said that she came with all the things I would need to take care of her. I thought this met a sleeping pouch too. She did give us a bonding pouch tho. I spent all the money I have on her, thinking I was gonna get what I need. So now I have no money, for about 2 weeks, to get her a sleeping pouch. :/
I'm glad we got her tho. I know I can give her a better home than what she had.
Just hang the bonding pouch in the cage. Thats best anyway because then she's already sleeping in it in the morning and you can wear the pouch on you during the day. You won't have to worry about transferring her to another pouch. The bonding pouch will do JUST fine.
you can also go to a fabric store and buy fleece (very inexpensive and tie the four corners to the top of your cage so it hangs low. it works really well.
