How exciting! Your suggies will love it when you get them. From what I've heard that cage is HUGE. When do you get your suggies? Or have you gotten that far yet? Anywho, welcome to the board!

Hi CHoffman Welcome to Glider Gossip!

Kudos to you for doing your research first! And that cage is gorgeous and HUGE! Be sure to put it together in the room you are going to keep it in. Ive heard they are a little difficult to get thru normal sized doorways.

Thanks for the warm welcome!!
Yes the cage is HUGE!!. We have a very big house with very big doors so I think we'll be ok. But just incase I'm def putting it together in the room it will be staying. I'm sewing all my own cage sets. I found great videos on how to do it! I will be getting two joeys in 7-9 weeks when they are ready. Both females one is standard grey and one is WFB. I think I'll be feeding BML to start with and once I positive I can figure out the ratios I'll switch to HPW. I CAN'T wait to get them!!. I'm a huge animal lover and we foster for our local humane society so I'm looking forward to adopting rescue gliders and helping in any way I can. I have a huge heart for animals and I love being able to do my part. Things are actually working out quite nice. Our vet we use for our other animals has agreed to study up on and see my gliders as well, so hopefully everything will go smoothly.

I uploaded pics of what I've made so far but not sure where I uploaded them too..lol..Main album I think. I don't know how to upload to this post.

Wow you have been doing your research that is awesome. Sounds like you know exactly what you are doing! I believe their may be a list of ratios under nutrition I may be incorrect, but that might help you to figure out the ratios when you are ready. Yay for rescuing animals and suggies. I always try to tell people when looking for suggies how many there are out there that are in need of a forever home.

I couldn't find it there, but I did find a old thread that has items with the ratio listed next to it. I know it is kind of early for it now, but I am going to post the link for you. http://www.sugarglider.com/glidergossip/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=24076

I really try to know as much as humanly possibly before I adopt an animal. Plus I love educating myself so I can be more useful to them and others. So far it's going great. Right now I'm in the stages of buying everything I need and building my vet fund up. So far I've got $500.00 but I know that can go to zero in a matter of minutes so I'll just keep plugging away and by the time my suggies are ready I should have everything just perfect for them!!. Then all I'll have to worry about is spoiling them rotten!

Thanks so much for the link!!. I really appreciate it. When it's time I'll just have to make a meal plan to ensure they are getting 2:1.

I feel a little silly saying "hi, welcome, nice to meet you" because you've been posting and we've "chatted" already! But yeah, all that stuff too! I am so excited that you are getting your babies! And you got a heck of a cage too... be careful what size wheel you get, and if it will fit through the doors, or you may have to take the top of the cage off to fit it, and clean it.

Can't wait to see pics of your new babies! And umm, did you learn how to post your pics yet?? (wanta see the stuff you made too!)... here's how you do it:
Before you start typing your reply, , hit "reply" so you get the full "posting a reply" window. You will see a line at the top that says "format" and you click on the BOOK (when you mouse over, it says "My Photo Albums")... find the pic you want to post, and click on the right hand side.

Yes...Hello again. Thank for letting me know about the pics..Now lets see if I can figure it out..lol

Yeah!! I think I did it! I have to make more but I haven't got around to it yet. I'm getting there though. I'm just proud of myself that I even managed to make these..lol. I was super careful, no loose strings, super tight stitching and I back stitched every chance I got so hopefully they will work good. I'm gonna wait to make the corner hammocks until I have the cage and can measure the angles. I'll make 3-4 sets and start buying all the fun toys.

CHoffman, I have a selection of recipes posted in the nutrition section of this site (under the resources tab at the top) that all have the proper 2:1 ratio. Currently there are four fruit cocktails and two veggie relishes. Each recipe has detailed info ( to the point of being a bit repetitive. :D ) in the description to further explain what's what. I feed HPW and was in a similiar situation for a while, in not knowing how to work out the proper ratios, and then bring into the equation nasty things like oxylates. Then, once I got it figured out I worked these recipes out and all three of my gliders LOVE these recipes. There is nothing left come morning.

Lol! Yeah, that was what I needed too, I just couldn't find anything already out there. I thought I had at one site, but was then told the ratios didn't match up. But it gave me the idea on how to create my own recipes and then Ed from lucky glider rescue taught me how to use the recipe feature here at this site to create those recipes.

My recipes have my screen name in their title so you'll know which ones they are. Not all the other recipes posted have a 2:1 ratio so be careful before making anything else. Look for the calcium graph and the phosphorous graph. If it doesn't add up to twice as much (or more) calcium, then it isn't properly balanced and you can't use it with HPW.

I really recommend the HPW diet over the BML. BML is a good diet but I've noticed that more gliders like to turn their noses up at it. Plus it doesn't smell that great. I also have some concerns about the rep-cal.

My guys are doing so well on the HPW. All three were rescues and the difference is amazing.

I have a glider diet calculator (excel spread sheets) on my web page that may help you calculate the ratios with what ever diet you choose.

gliderkids.com/references.html

there are also a printable nutrient list for many foods, in 1 TBS portions, that we use for our gliders

Any questions you have, hon, I'll be happy to help you with. I could even speak with you over the phone some night if you'd like! I don't know where I'd be if some very nice individuals hadn't helped me out in a similiar way when I got started!
