So I did tent time again today. It's been either the 3rd or fourth time... I can't really remember. XD

anyway, they have gotten very used to me at this point, and the climb alllll over me, especially Totoro. Totoro jumps all over my head, my back, my arms- everywhere. he'll run off and come back and check on me and put his face up to mine to check how i am! he'll groom my head, or sniff my face! I even got my first face hug from him tonight!!! :D

Pix... I don't know about Pix. He'll climb all over me, and doesn't seem to MIND me, but he seems much more independent and still on guard. For example, if I put my hand out, Totoro will come and climb on it. But if I put my hand out for Pix, he'll run away most of the time. :( Also, when I open their bonding pouch, Pix ALWAYS is a loud crabber. I'm kinda afraid to start scooping them out of the pouch, cause I'm nervous he might bite me or something? even though he's never tried to before.

Anyway, I have some questions. Totoro tries to chew on the genji tent's mesh. I'm nervous he'll poke a hole in it. I make the PSST sound, and at first he stopped and looked at me like "did you do that??", but now he just ignores me. Is there any way I can get him to stop?

also, I've found that when i have guests in the tent with me, Pix will start to bite their back. not in a mean way, but he'll just hang out on their back and then start nipping it. why does he do this? He's never ever done that to me before... so I dunno what he's doing. We tried the psst thing, but that doesn't work that well either. :(

also, when did you start scooping your sugar gliders out of their pouch? i'm just nervous because Pix is such a loud crabber and seems pretty upset when i wake him up (lol just like me!) so I don't want him to just maul my hand lol.

advice?

About chewing on the tent: if the Psst! noise doesn't work, try distracting him, even lifting him away from the mesh. You'll have to keep a very close eye on him in the tent, of course, because you don't want a hole in it.

Same with Pix nibbling on guests. He's probably getting acquainted with them, but if they don't like it, then either distract him or remove him.

I don't scoop my gliders out of their pouch. In the tent or bathroom, I lay the pouch down and let them come out on their own. If for some reason I have to take them out of their pouch, like for nail trimming, I roll down the pouch like rolling down a sock and get the one I want, then put the others back in the cage. None of the three wants me to get him out! They squirm and try to get under each other. I do have one who's still very aggressive about it, and I'll wrap a large (about 15 inch square) piece of fleece around him so I don't get bitten.

Savannah that is terrific news! It seems as though they are bonding super fast! They are such cuties, and Priscilla obviously works very close with handling and socializing them. As far as Pix-give him time. Suggies are very human in the fact they have very, very distinct and different personalities. Both of my girls love me and show it in different ways. Like Wavern will hold my fingers like a teddy and cuddle with my hands when asleep, but be super adventurous and independent during playtime. Vestral is just fine with being touched when asleep but sometimes likes to play nip, but jumps back and forth between me and something else during playtime. Just give him time and attention, thats all you can really do to get him to trust and bond with you. I was very lucky in my girls bonded right away, but others take months to bond (and years if mistreated by an old owner). I would say you are making excellent progress. Also, have you tried the licky treats on your fingers (yogurt/honey)? They might help!

snusie- I do try to distract them, it doesn't work very well. :/

filly- yah, i know they have different personalities and such, I guess I'm just more used to Totoro just being all gung -ho about everything lol! I have tried licky treats, and they eat and lick from my hands all the time. now whenever they see my hands, they think there's food on there, even when there's not! it kinda backfired ahahaha.

I don't ever scoop mine out either. Once you're in the tent, peel the sides of the pouch down so they can't bury themselves. Once they're out of the pouch, hide it.

Like the others, I don't scoop my gliders out. I don't role the pouch down either. What I do is simply put the pouch on the floor of the tent while I sit there and read, or watch tv, or whatever. In the beginning, it would take them about 10 minutes to come out and explore. One day, in fact, it took an entire 30 minutes... now, they're climbing out and coming to see me as soon as the pouch is down.

I don't hide the pouch in the tent either. It's laying out, available to them. Mine have never went back in the pouch once they were out.

At first when I started tent time, I would lay the pouch down and wait...2 or 3 HOURS. After well over a week of that, it was suggested to me to peel the sides down if I knew they were awake and then hide the pouch. Worked great. Eventually, I didn't need to hide it either. Guess they are and everyone is different.

2 or 3 hours? Gosh... I would've peeled the sides down and hid the pouch, too! I was going nuts the one night it took 30 minutes!

I have patience...but only for so long. LOL My husband couldn't believe I sat in there that long. I'm more stubborn than patient. LOL

they usually come out of the pouch pretty quickly, it only takes them like 5 minutes to come out. but i was wondering cause i've heard people do it to their gliders, so i was curious.
