My dad just asked me to go on vacation with him from aug. 1-8th but I don't think i am going to go because I have no one to watch/take care of my suggies.. what does everyone do with your suggies when/if you go on vacation??

Its always best to find someone you trust who can come over everyday to check on them and feed them. Since you arent going until August, you would have time to get one of your "trusted" friends to start coming over to learn how to care for them.

Make up enough food for the entire time you will be gone, freeze each meal individually and put the date on each. That way, whoever watches them can reach in the freezer and pull out their meal. This would also be the "only" time I would suggest putting a bowl or two of dry kibblein their cage. "Just in case".

You might want to also consider putting ectra water bottles in their cage "just in case". We normally suggest to always have 2 water bottles, but I would put 3 or 4.

AND call them everyday!!!

If we are going to be gone more than 24 hours, I take our gliders (8 of them) and their cage to my parents about 45 minutes away. I have shown them how to take care of feeding, cleaning up, what to watch for and give them our cell numbers and the numbers where we will be. They are given food for more than the time we expect to be gone, all the info I have collected on care of gliders and the card for our vet. In emergencies, the vet that took care of teir dog has taken care of gliders but is not an exotic specialist. Ours' get distilled water to drink so I supply a gallon of it too. Do not have anyone in town to help as they are all involved in family, kids or divorce and not able to commit to our babies needs. As Rita states, get someone started early in training them to feed and care for them and be careful about them taking them out as they could get away and someone not used to their habits might lose them in the house. Not a call I would want to get. I check in on them everyother day as my parents know we would come back in a hurry if there is a problem. Good Luck!

I would have my mom look after my two little boys since i live with her.. i don't think she would have a problem feeding them but i highly doubt she would want to take them out.. i think that them not having contact with someone for a week is mean though : ( do you think it would be extremely detrimental to them??

They will be just fine with only being fed for a week. As long as they have their food, they still have each other. UNLESS, they are in a tiny cage where there is no room for excersize.

Both my groups have huge flight cages...I will be going on two vacations this year and have already set up plans for my best friend to swing by and feed them every day. I'm not having her get them out because they have plenty of room in their cages and will be fine.

the cage isn't gigantic but it's big enough so that they have their pouch, toys, a wheel to run in, water bottles.. it measures 18x18x24

I would work on getting a bigger cage, that one barely meets (if it meets) the minimum.

I would save up and get a larger one...

As for the vacation, when I go out for a night or 2, I will always give intstructions to my teenage brother and he feeds them...

He worships those little fuzzbutts and usually has them out for as long as he can everytime he glider-sits.

any suggestions on where to get a good cage for a reasonable price??

Do you have a target range that you can pay? I have the "Sturdy Cage" from Suncoast Gliders. It is the same cage as "The Brisbane" cage that Exotic Nutrition sells. I believe that the shipping cost is better from SunCoast. I am currently looking to increase size and take this cage to my parents' house so I do not have to haul it there when we go on vacation. Still have the small cage for isolation/medical use. Check sugar-gliders.com and Exotic Nutrition and maybe even bird.com

I got 2 large cages for 150 on ebay and zip tied them together. Its a realy big cage and the shipping was free.

my daughter got her boy in Oct/Nov.2009 he was 6 weeks old. due to her having her third and less time for Boomer- I have him since June.I found out the sexed boy that they bought was in fact a girl. She goes to work with me and spends most of the day on me. I am concerned as we go on vacation with my entire family for 1 week.She does not have a playmate. Do you think she would she survive if I leave her in the house with my dog and someone coming over to care for the dog and spend the night there, checking her food & water?I would appreciate any suggestions as I don't want to stress her out or have her forget me. what is the best thing to do?

Way too small of a cage. You can build one for $80 and it will be HUGE! All you need is zip ties, PVC pipe and connectors, PVC cutter or saw, and Vinyl Hardware Mesh :o)

My cage is 5 ft by 2 ft by 3 ft and I spent about $60

We go on vacation a lot. 9 times out of 10 we take the boys (the rest of the critters stay behind with grandma) Anyway we are going on a 10 day trip next week (with grandma) and my boys cant come. I am driving 4 hours one way next weekend to drop the gliders (and my dog) off at my cousin's house since I know she will play with them and they like her. The other 6 will be staying home with a daily food/water lady caring for them.

sugar mama, can you post a pic of your cage? I'm curious to see what it looks like! :)
