i dont know what tree is safe that my sugar gliders can play on

There is a web site that lists safe trees. Most fruit trees are listed. Apple, pear, blue berries, & grape vines I remember because I have those in my yard. I would never ever take them outside to play on a tree though! Too many glider enemies out there! Cats, dogs, hawks, owls, too many to even think of!

I'm not quite sure I understand what you're asking. Do you want to take branches from tree and put them in your gliders' cage, or do you want to actually take them outside and let them play on the trees themselves.

If it's the former, you need to make sure that the branches you're selecting have not been exposed to chemicals of any kind. I have a friend who takes branches from her neighbor's apple tree (which she knows are chemical-free) and bakes them in he oven at a low temperature (I believe it's 250 degrees) for about an hour. However, your best bet may be to order products online. I know a lot of members here love the products offrered at this website:

If you are asking about taking your gliders outside to play on actual trees - I have to agree with virtual_diver. It's a really, really bad idea for all the reasons previously listed.

I bought an applewood branch from Petsmart. It's a real branch and it connects to the outside of the cage with a screw and nut thingie. I'm trying to make their cage look like the real outdoors. I also bought some fake plants (glider proof) from Suncoast Gliders.

fruit tree wood should be ok, check the safe plant list first. Please don't put any leaves in the cage though. Some fruit trees have poisonous leaves.

I have just cut, boiled and baked some tree limbs to put in my cage ;)
Not everyone does this, but rain put pollution on everything thus the boiling, and you bake them to kill anything that might be living on / in it.
then you drill it and insert a hanger bolt to hang it in your cage by ;)

Make sure that the tree that has not been sprayed with pesticides or chemicals, even years ago as the chemicals can remain for a number of years. Also make sure you know for sure what type of tree it is. Follow the above link to make sure the plant is safe. (the plant not just the fruit it bares) If you aren’t sure, just don’t use it.

To prepare the wood, many people scrub the branches or twigs in hot water first with a brush. This will help get rid of any dirt and pollution that may be on the outside of it. If any of the pieces have lichen on it, toss those out as some forms of lichen can be toxic. Some people will then boil their wood to take out some of the tannin and to kill germs. Not everyone does this however. Some also recommend a salt water scrub but again, not everyone does this.

Wash, scrub and boil your wood and allow to air dry then......

the next step would be to bake the wood. This is to kill any microorganisms or insects that may be living in or on the wood. Sort your wood to have pieces that are about the same size together and put them on a cookie sheet or tinfoil. Keep them about the same size so that they will need to cook the same amount of time. Preheat your oven to anywhere from 150-200 degrees. The lower temperature that you use, the longer you’ll need to bake the wood, but if you do a higher temperature be sure and check the wood often so that it doesn’t burn. You’ll need to bake your wood for at least an hour. The time will really depend on if you have green wood and how big the pieces are. Just keep checking the wood and when it is dried out, take it out and allow it to cool.

Store your dried wood in an open package so that even if you did miss some of the moisture, it will naturally dry out and not mold.

Take a drill and drill a hole in the end of a branch and then take a pair of pliers and twist a hanger bolt into the hole by the spot in the middle with no threads. You can then use large fender washers to mount the sticks into your cage.

I know you can use apple and willow branches, but I wouldn't suggest taking your glider out to a actual tree. They can scale a full sized tree in seven seconds, and be gone in two.

NEVER EVER USE CHERRY BRANCHES. Cherry trees have cyanide in their branches/trunk as a natural deterent. They should not be used for any animal, bird or mammal. Even ornamental cherry trees contain trace amounts of cyanide in them.

Oh. You aren't suppose to use pine either. The sap will get all over the glider and it would be hard to get off. And the needles are no-no as well. And certain types of leaves.. I can't remember what. I Think you aren't suppose to use maple.

what about grape vines? pestice free
