Bear with me, because this is going to be a long post:

I have had my gliders since June 2011. I had them on the standard Pocket Pets diet until I switched to a popular staple diet in July. I kept them on this diet until I noticed something strange..... I will post pictures so you can see what I have seen over the months.

We will begin with Ziggy.

This is Ziggy.

Ziggy in October

December

January

and today, Feb 18. after ONE month on a new diet

That was probably pretty subtle. So, lets move on to Gizmo

Gizmo

October

November

December

January

and today, Feb 18. after ONE month on a new diet

now lets move on to Cocoa.

October

November (I enhanced the color some)

December

January

and today, Feb. 18 after ONE month on a new diet

her back...

now, scroll back up and look at the pic of Cocoa's face, now look at her face today (keep in mind, it's only ONE month after a change of diet)

I think I'm going to have to give her a new name as she's not so "Cocoa" colored anymore

I post this thread because I am FLOORED!!!!! I thought I had them on a GREAT diet! I thought Cocoa just had some cinnamon in her that made her look so tan. But she was stained ALL OVER! Even Gizmo's flawless fur is almost back to a normal bright/clean gray and black. ... Ziggy, well, he must just have good genetics cause his didn't change too much.

What an amazing change in your gliders, Lisa!!! :) I love the pic with the bunny ears. But you didn't mention what new diet you're feeding. ;) I think it's LGRS, but I don't remember.

I thought at first you must just be anal looking through Ziggy's pictures but Cocoa and Gizmo seem to confirm it. It appears they kept a solid color from July until October whether it be an orange color or grey and then suddenly their color in all 3 began to splotch in November. Almost instantly on a new diet they are changing into one solid color none of them have ever been before. It would be interesting to see how their fur looks after another few months of a new diet.

Definitely post in this thread.

The diet they were on for about 6 months wasn't a 'bad' diet so-to-speak, but it wasn't benefiting and it definitely wasn't doing anything to HELP their fur! After trying many different things to fix the crackly fur, I decided to change diet and you all can see the difference between a GOOD diet and a GREAT diet.

My question is... Were you feeding PP all the way up to LGRS or is there one in between that? TELL US, stop making us wait in suspense!

Oh, heavens no. They were on PP pellets, apples, etc for just a month or so. I found the original HPW, switched after a month- Then they were on HPW Complete for 6 months.

HP Complete, wow. I wonder if anyone else has experienced something similar with their gliders fur or if gliders really do metabolize every diet differently.

I've had my babies on HPW w/ fruits and veggies since nov/dec ish. The baby has kept her beautiful color. The one I first got still has discoloration. I've noticed some improvement, but still brown!! She had a battle with some parasites that took us 3 vet visits in 3 weeks before we cleared her. Do you think that could also cause a delay or issues with the coloring?

my gliders area good color, and my newest girl was on a terrible diet, only baby food, and now she's a nice white cream color on her belly and an almot silver on her back (lighter than my other two. I would think wfb but she's not so idk?) and I have complete (I think. I ordered it from asvg before I was more informed, but i was told the powder is the same and hpw complete?)

my gliders look great and they're on complete.

Yes Pocket Pets / ASGV Sells Glider Gravy which is repackaged HPW Complete.

Apparently this staining that is being associated with this diet starts at approximately 6 months into feeding the Complete, from what I have been hearing.

that's how long it took me to notice something funky going on with their fur. The original problem was that their fur was cracking... then I took pics in January was was like "waaaaa?!" when I noticed Gizmo's fur was so brown. Gizmo only has a little brown staining on the base of his tail and Cocoa's is still going away. Their fur is crackly right now and I am not sure why, but I'm continuing to work on figuring all this out.

I guess because I look at them every day, it's harder for me to notice these things. Cocoa is looking better by the day. Hopefully this week I can get recent pics of them and continue this thread.

In my opinion, Istant is also more nutrtionally sound than complete. I found the ingredients somewhere but forgot to bookmark it...
