 My girls name!

Posted by: Essika
-----
Okay, so I'm getting my little girl in December and I've decided on a name for her I think. Depending on her personality it will either be Bugs, Akiko or Toshi (Pronounced A-Key-Co and Toe-She). Bugs, well because the whole cartoon thing and Akiko or Toshi because I'm a HUGE fan of Family Guy and American Dad....

Which one do you guys like?

 Ticked off/ranting time!

Alright. I have seen so many posts about money issues and such. It's drastically ticking me off.
1) If you can not afford your glider a friend, how are you affording the food, vet bills, cage, and other necessary things a glider needs? A FRIEND is something NECESSARY to a glider's well-being. As said before, sugar gliders are colony animals and do much better while in larger numbers.
2) If these people were responsible enough to READ the information about gliders and see that they need two, wouldn't a person save up to get two? Wouldn't a person see all of the horror stories about gliders doing terrible things to themselves? These are the same people when something actually happens to their glider, they can not afford to get their glider emergency treatment or even know the number to their vet!! Come on, guys! Show some responsibility. If you can not do this, DO NOT own ANY pet for that matter. You do not deserve the love of an animal if you can not give it the best life it deserves! If that means saving up, waiting until you are older, or just not getting one at all, then by all means do these things and do not get a glider until then or at all.

So, recently I posted that I was going to have a little chat with my local pet store about the unhealthy habits they have with gliders. So.. I calmly approached the pet store with head held high and an open heart, only to be ignored with my questions on how they are treating the gliders. I started, still somehow calmly, to tell them things that had to be done unless they want to lose their gliders, which I cleverly said would mean a loss in profit. Their eyes bulged for a second, but still nothing happened. I learned today that a shipment of gliders were thrown in together, resulting in massive fights. One glider lost an eye, one glider died, and one had two broken limbs. My heart completely broke in two. My mind started to become jumbled, I didn't know what to do or say. Wouldn't someone learn what NOT to do? Two sets of joeys have been born within the month, according to an inside source, which has also complained about the treatment of the gliders.
Alright.. I'm sick of not being able to do anything. I have to sit and watch these helpless gliders, only being separated by a thin piece of glass. God please help these little guys...

 Getting a girl!

So I'm pretty excited. I've had Tazz since this summer and have been looking feverishly for a friend and to no avail. Unfortunately I haven't seen too many Canadians on this site so I didn't really know anyone who might be able to come up with any breeders names or anything local (as I don't drive.) I was literally about to give up... Out of desperatation I posted an add in the Toronto kijiji site and I got a response about a set of twin girl joeys and I found an add on Hobbly about a single girl joey! I was so exstatic! I've decided to go with the little girl who is by herself.... I figure it will make it easier for Tazz to bond. Now I'm just counting down the days until she comes to my house and we can start introductions!

 Anyone knows this?

Hey all.
I've just bought 2 sugar gliders - they're one year and four months old.
But i noticed that the male's left eye is blue, and kind of matt (google translates the opposite of blank with matt). I don't think that it's infection, because the eye is wide open, and he doesn't seem to feel pain in that eye. I tried to get a picture of it, but i can't..

Does anyone know what that might be?

 This weeks eureka moment

Posted by: kazko
-----
I am away for work this week and find myself in Houston staying at a Marriott Spring Hill Suites. I rolled in around 10:30pm Monday night and was pleasantly surprised to find a very cold and comfy room. This is a mini-suite and has a separator that allows for two rooms with a sitting area, couch, chair, desk, mini-kitchen... The bed is a Tempur-pedic foam mattress on a hard box. I was very pleasantly surprised that I woke up the next morning with absolutely no back pain and I had a very good nights sleep for the first time in awhile. I am thinking now that my mattress back at home has passed the point of no return and I should look at replacing it with something such as this. I really am amazed at how the generally firmer mattress supports everything better and hurts less, so I may have to become a Tempur customer.

But that's not my eureka moment.

Here are some photos of the room.

My eureka moment happened after I had spent an hour on the laptop and decided to call it a night. I turned everything off, turned off the main room lights and made my way over to the bed very slowly and cautiously. I had pretty much forgotten about the little wall piece that separates the rooms where I had earlier supported myself as I kicked off the shoes from my tired feet. So in the dark my creeping feet encountered my shoes, I tripped forward just a bit to catch myself as one might, and out of nowhere the sharp corner of the short wall managed to slam the front side of my face.

My eye came out mostly unscathed, but it hit hard enough that I saw a big flash of light as one can at times of impact or stress. So, my eureka moment was a bad experience that reinforces the fact that you shouldnt be roaming around in pitch darkness in an unfamiliar place.

 Tropical Storm Ida

Posted by: Moriko

So, every single high school in lower Alabama is out for the what is now a tropical storm. Ida rawred as she came into the gulf, but then dwindled down as she hit the chilly air of the fall season. The University of South Alabama still has classes tomorrow. Blah. Luckily I scheduled my classes on MWF this semester, so I shouldn't be complaining anyway. Still have work tomorrow! Yay!... Since the storm isn't that bad and schools are out tomorrow, Pacsun will probably be packed.. yay again.

After re-homing five gliders, I found out how much personality and how different each glider's personality can be. It's just amazing how different every one of my eight gliders are.

It's utterly amazing how I actually have a sugar glider. I am inlove with her. Shes a beautiful, loyal majstic animal. I almost actually bought her a friend, intill I saw the price. I was at a flea market, and well, we all know, that usually the ones there, aren't treated right, fed right, and so on. I looked in a cage, in a small room, cause, I thought there would be something cute and small in there. There was a glider, a feret, and something that looked like another sugar glider, but.. honestly, I couldn't even tell. It's so sad to see how they're treated before sold. Then, a lady was selling all types of rats, hamsters, and what nots. She at least kept them in seperate cages. I was asking her about what she feeds her Sugar gliders.. She feeds hers cat food. Infact, she told me she fed all of her rodents cat food.... it wa so sad. I hope all of you know not to treat your babies that bad. I know there are so many good mommys. They are all on this site!
