Oct 26, 2009 Good Bye, Pellet's. Posted by: suggie_momI have officialy, completely, and totally removed pellet's from my suggies diet. I think this was a good choice, and i'm glad i'm learning thing s like this are bad on this website, so I can become a better suggie owner. The more knowlodge I have, the happier my suggies can be!
Oct 26, 2009 1 month Posted by: P-Nut Update on Sly. He trusts us..but hes seems to be a little..distant from us. He always lets us pick him up, without a fight. he never bites us. He always makes the crabbing noise when i go near his cage when hes sleeping ( hope thats normal) all he seems to do is SLEEP. sleep sleep sleeeeeeeeep. Sheesh! When i wake them up for there exercise time...he runs somewhere an falls asleep. I try to spend time with him in the room but he runs somewhere an sleeeps. I keep finding him an waking him up until he eventually WAKES UP! IT works. hell eventually wake up. After the 10th time of waking him up. Then ill spend some time with him an hell run around an jump on me. but he doesnt like to be held when hes runnin around in the room. )hope thats normal too) i give him aT LEASt 3 hours of roaming time but he wastes it an sleeps most of the time. (I cant wait until we get our new house they are gonna have their own room so they can wake up an run around as they please) i feel bad leaving them in the cage all night cuz they wouldnt run around when i woke them up. When i put them back in their cage...sly goes right in his pouch ( i THINK hes sleeping..again) or hes just waiting for us to go to bed. cuz thats when they like to come out. when were not around an its pitch black ) hope thats normals as well lol. Update on Snickerz and Kit-Kat. They still hate when we go near the cage while their in their pouches, the scream at us. But when they are out of their pouch they seem fine. When we take them out there scared at first but they are roaming around alot more. When we shut the lights off they run near us and climb on us. They dont like to be held AT ALL yet. I hope they trust us a little more. Sometimes if i move veeerry slowley theyll let me pet them. They seem to like being pet on the front side of their neck. their eyes close lol. I think this is a little improovment.in the morning..Kit-Kat comes out of the pouch..an ill give her a treat. She eats it like shes starving.. They eat SOME of their food when i give it to them at night. But latley looks like they havn eaten at all. They only eat the hpw diet. No veggies no fruit. Same with Sly. thats all they have eated was hpw. so maybe i should just give them veggies again for a night. They ate it all when i did that. but thats not going to change the fact when i give them all of it again. cuz theyll still only eat the hpw an some fruits. So im stuck on that. I take them out while in their pouches an carry them with me and all that. But sometimes it seems like it annoys them bc they hear every noise. They move with me. I hope were still bonding. an not... becoming distant. I see progress an at the same time..distance. Oct 26, 2009 Seasons prove harder to find food :( Posted by: suggie_momThis is my first winter with my suggie's, and i've found that there are not nearly as many fruits in the grocery store! The only fruit they seem to have is apples and banana's. -Literally. Should I just give them vedgies and apples? Should I resort to baby food fruit until fruits in season...? Oct 24, 2009 Chrochet a pouch! Posted by: suggie_momI've learned how to chrochet a pouch for my suggie bears! It's actually quite basic :) I can make one in about 1-2 hours depending on what mood i'm in... The day I was going to go get my glider's I made like five because I was so excited! LOL. I just have to line the inside so their nails don't snag. I love how I can pick the colors... I even chrocheted a few flowers to decorate the outside! Oct 24, 2009 Blankies! Posted by: suggie_momI've become used to each of my suggie brother's having their own blankie:) It's really just a square of fleece, but to them, a VERY important piece of fleece! They carry it around everywhere with them. To the food bowl, toy's, Where ever else they go. Not to mention their pouch. During the day, if the blankie falls out of their pouch, my lazy suggies throw a fit until I get it for them! They're like, MOM! GET ME MY BLANKIE! Wash day is a true nightmare...! Oct 21, 2009 Getting Her tonight! Posted by: shelbyxgoreI can't believe I'm actually getting my first Glider tonight. I'm so nurvus, yet, so happy! The beautiful baby will be in a great home. Oct 20, 2009 Treats/Playing Posted by: shelbyxgoreI posted on my last Journal Entry about how I might be getting my friend's Sugar Glider. I didn't give much information about the Glider. Her name is Juju, shes two years old, and from what I've heard, very playful. Since I'm an eigth grade student, and I'm always filled up with homework, but I really don't do it most of the time.. but, Will it be okay if I played with them like, overly to much? Or is that not good? I know they sleep during the day, but, how else will I play with Juju if I can't wake her up during sometime of the day. I was reading some other Journal entries, and I saw something about snacks for the Gliders. What would you feed them as a snack? I saw a video and it said something about not feeding them Bannanas. What should I feed them? What toys should I put in her cage? Oct 20, 2009 I wonder if Its right.. Posted by: shelbyxgore Well, I am so happy because ever since I was at least ten, I've wanted a Sugar Glider. But, my parents never let me get one, because of the money issue. (prices were way high!) Now, since I've moved to Florida about a year ago, I've made some friends. One of them named Megan has a Two year old Sugar Glider. She is giving me the glider for one hundred includeing, the cage, food, bedding, and her toy's. I'm just waiting for my father to come home to get his approvile. I'm a loving person towards aniamls. And, I can care a lot for one too. Seeing this site gave me hope that I could be the new "mother" for this amazing animal. I'm just hopeing I do a good job with this animal. Any Advice? Oct 20, 2009 Heard them barking for the first time. Posted by: fadedrainbowsI've had mine for a week and last night I heard them bark for the first time. My husband has heard it before but I always slept right through it.
But last night I heard one of them barking and I rushed into the living room to see. One of them was clinging to the cage with the face pushed right up against the bars barking. I couldn't tell if it was Lessa or the male whom I have yet to name because I didn't want to turn on the light. I was afraid the light would make them stop. One thing I did notice though is that the other one would stop for a second then go crazy running around the cage. I've read of other's gliders standing still to listen, but mine just flipped out. The babies were in the pouch, so I couldn't see their reaction. I have no other pets, there was nothing weird happening. So I guess they were just being weird. =] Oct 20, 2009 Summary of lil momma and Petry thus far, Day 6 Posted by: mzBKworm I got our two gliders via craigslist from a lady who had gotten 2 from a petstore a few years ago... they were supposed to be the same sex, but she now has 12 and was thinning out her colony. Petry (assumed female, but not got enough of pouch glimpse to be definite, and Lil momma (whose name went from mr. crabs to lil momma after confirming pouch). We weren't trying to rename her, it just happened. I see a bump on her pouch, and so I think that means there's a joey. We certainly hope so. My husband and I have been trying to hand tame them and bond them separately. The previous owner told us that the older suggies were tamed, but that the younger had 0- handling, because she just got too busy and there were too many. So we assume petry has had none, she is smaller than little momma and certainly younger. Lil momma seems used to people more, she definitely is not opposed to taking bribes. I have been handling Petry, my husband has Lil Momma. I admit, I feel overwhelmed with Petry. We've not had sugar gliders before, and I'd never seen them until the pet store when we looked. Can someone just tell me if I'm doing this right? We give them sugar glider pellets, but thats as a supplement mostly, since I follow the lbd (can't remember how to spell it) diet. They get chicken, turkey, fruit, yogurt on a daily basis, with me rotating what foods from each group daily. I know they need vegetables too, but they just throw them out so I'm not sure they like them. Their cage is about 4x4x2, and we have a tent shaped sleeping thing for them, food bins, water bottle, wheel, and hanging things for them to play on. My problem right now (well the first one) is how do I get them out of the cage? am I doing it wrong, or is this how it is at first? Is there a better way you've found with unbonded, mostly untamed suggies? They will not go into the pouches willingly. I'm scared to just stick my hand in their tent and pick them up, so I usually pick them up through the tent on the bottom and attempt to slide them into the bonding pouch. Sometimes, it ends up with me chasing petry around the cage. Usually I have to trick him, using the old sleeping pouch (which we stopped using so that we could trick them like this). I hold out the old pouch, petry goes in, and I slowly roll up the old pouch so he's forced into the new pouch. It's the only way we've found. Meal worms don't work, I haven't seen either suggie touch them. if I do yogurt, they just lick it off the edges, they won't go any further. Petry does not come out of the bonding pouch willingly, even for bribes, and I don't want to scare her by forcing her. I carry her around with me everywhere, usually starting about 9 am and stopping about 9 pm, at which point we do tent time with both (during which petry does not come out) and then we put them back after maybe an hour and go to bed. Jake (husband) seems to be making small headway with momma, she doesn't let him pick her up or anything, but as long as he moves slow, she doesn't run either... petry... well ya'll know about that one. So are we doing this right, is this how it progresses? Oct 19, 2009 It's a boy! Posted by: co2chantelWell my new little guy Gizmo came OOP on 10/7, his eyes opened up yesterday 10/18. He sure is a cutie pie! He seems content to crawl up and snuggle my neck. :) Mommy and Daddy are doing a great job taking care of him. It's kinda funny though. Mommy seems relieved when I take him for a few minutes. LOL I will try to post some pics soon.
