 Blue birds attack!

Posted by: kazko
-----
So it must be that time of year when baby birds fall out of nest and sit on the ground for a few days while their moms and dads watch. Luckily, one of the nestlings fell inside of my fence because it has been protected. The others fell outside of the fence and I found them flattened by cars in the alley.

So this one little blue jay birdie cant fly and mom and dad are watching it carefully. If you go near, they start to screech. I have been hit on the head three times by an angry parent. It is a rather unique experience and I highly recommend it.

day one of having a new little one. Picked up a 4 month old "gray" Male yesterday at 8:30pm MST. Let him spend 18 hours in his cage, cage idea is new to him. Lady had a whole room for them to run around in. Spent the whole day so far with him in the screen pouch. So far so good.

Just going to hold off for while til I start to introduce him to the two 4 year old females I already have.

 Up to four

OK, now that I have time to make another update, I will. Chase and Cameron went to the vet. Clean bill of health for Cameron, Chase had pinworm. All of my gliders are now dewormed. The vet's office gives enough to deworm about 90 gliders since they are so small, only get one drop, and only get it for 3 days. Bolt was another baby I got because he was in a hamster cage, alone, eating cat food. His brother was killed by the old owner's cat sooo, he has a wonderful new flight cage that he glides in! Lastly is baby Emerald. Emerald came from someone who had no idea what she was doing. I don't know it all, but I do know with 3 females and 3 males in one cage, one of the females should not be sleeping on the bottom of the cage. Emerald has stopped over-grooming now, and is eating well. I am trying to fatten her up a little as she is supposedly 2 years old and weighs 67 grams. I will be adding pictures of her soon.

Made it home from a very long roadtrip

Posted by: kazko

After 3600 miles, 14 gas stops, $450 and 188 gallons of gas with an average of 19.27 mpg, we made it home. Gas was cheapest in Kingston, TN and most expensive in Avon, IN. We spent $500 in cash and my credit card has $1700 in trip related charges including the gas, motels, eating, zoos, tickets, ...

Credit card charges included:
$649.38 on lodging which did not include 5 nights at Seans and 2 nights with Raven (thanks!)
$450 on gas
$262 on food which did not include eating at Ravens and Dinners paid for by Rheasha and Rita and Christie.

I am happy to be home and am ready to plan the next roadtrip.

 Visit with Rita

We visited the St Louis Zoo this afternoon and then met Rita at Childrens Hospital to see her new grand children .

We had dinner with Rita and Christie at Uno's Chicago Grill which I had previously known as Pizzaria Uno's. Their Chicago style pizza is superb and their peanut butter cup desert rocks my world!

We stayed with Raven for two nights. Her place is a dream and she was a super host for us.

You can hear many of the various birds chirping in some of these videos.

New owner of a Sugerglider...Any suggestions welcome

Posted by: MzCarroll1978

My family purchased a SugarGlider from a family friend. His name is Bubbles(my 7 yr old named him). I knew the basics before we got him and the previous owners gave me a few tips. However I have a few concerns. First is I know they like companionship, so I wanted to find another male, as we do not want to breed. How long should I wait to get another, or would this help in Bubbles bonding with us by seeing another glider bonding with us? Typically how long does it take for the bonding process since he is a couple of years old already? Also if anyone has any tips for bonding they would be greatly appreciated. I have a carrying pouch with a screen for him to see out, however when I tried to coax him inside, he made this noise which quickly let me know he wasn't ready. Thank you anyone who can give tips or suggestions. Have a great day!

We visited the Fort Wayne Childrens Zoo today which is something that I have been wanting to do for a very long time. Elaine Kirchner is the Australia exhibit keeper and she showed us around the back office and I got to see all five of their striped possums.

Our new addition to the family Lily

Posted by: Loveshack
-----
We finally found someone who was selling a sugar glider. We drove an hour to Dryridge Kentucky to pick her up last night. She was just waking up when we got there. She was so adorable. The girlfriend and I had deccided on a name in the event that it didn't have one yet... We found out it didn't so we named her Lily. She had a 1 hour drive back to our place which was pretty fun. She was up and rareing to go when we left so she clawed out of her little pouch and just spent the majority of the car ride home running all over Jaimy and I. We got home and started setting everything up. We decided to keep her in our room for the first night before moving her to the little room across from ours which will become her permanent play area. She was playing with us until about 3 AM then we put her in the cage and let her do her own thing. She didn't crab or anything almost all night although we heard her running on her wheel quite a bit. Jaimy left for work in the morning and then I took her out for a little to get accustomed to her new area. She crabbed a little at first but actually had alot of fun exploring the new area. She was running all over the place. I cannot wait to play with her more tonight
