 My first journal entry

So, somehow I went from one sugar glider to four. I couldn't be happier!! It's funny because I was giving up on finding a 'rescue' glider. I really didn't want to have to drive across the state to pick up a glider from a breeder and then give it all the stress of a four hour drive back.

Just *poof* all of a sudden there were listings in my local classifieds, hoobly and craiglist. Yay! I was so excited.

It's a little funny having people come into my glider room only for them to see four seperate cages lying around. I still don't know what to name them all.

We now have Corban Dallas (who was my first glider - 1 year old - or so I'm told. He's my handsome, loving suggie baby who's a little social butterfly.

We have a female glider that we're currently dubbing 'Big Momma' - she's 2 years old - and is apparently pregnant though I have my doubts. She is an amazing escape artist though. She got out of her cage last night and ran around the glider room for gods only know how long! I can't believe she got her fat tushy out of the cage!

We have another female who is 14 Weeks OOP. She's adorable, loving and shy! Still no name for her, we're just calling her baby doll or delilah.

And finally 'Baby Boy'. He's supposed to be 16 weeks OOP. If he's 16 weeks OOP then I'm going to have the largest mutant glider ever! He's almost as big as Corban only he's fatter. The poor thing barely got any attention at all so we're working really hard with him.

So far, the introductions have gone so so. We tried Corban and Big Momma but that didn't go so well. Right now my hubby has Corban and Baby Boy and they're doing great so far. Granted, it's in the tent but we shall see. They've been running around and sharing toys which I think is a good sign.

We're not going to mix the girls until Baby Boy gets neutered which should hopefully happen this week or next.

Wish me luck I've got my hands full!

The forum was archived, at least partially. Every so often posts are "archived" to keep the forum running smoothly. The archived posts can be found here . Note, this is an archival feature of the current forum software and is seperate from the "archives" of past forums found in the Resources menu at the top of the page. Also, only the sugar glider forum is archived, and the current forum is the the last 6 months of posts.

 More Q's from the newby.

I have one post on here already and have no idea how to get to it. So hopefully I will be able to read everyones comments on this post. LOL

Can a glider be happy by itself or is it imperative to have at least two so they can play and snuggle?

What can I do to help his hygiene? My male is about 1 1/2 years old and he does not clean himself very well. His tail is so urin soaked that it is sticky feeling and you can see the fur seperated at the ends. His cage was soaked with urin when I got him and I do not know how he was cared for before he came to live with me. I let him settle in for the day and then cleaned the heck out of it the next. If I keep the cage clean will he start taking better care of himself?

Do females also mark you as they play around on you?

I was told suggies do better when there are at least two of them. If I get another suggie will Jack still play with me or prefer the other glidder?

How do you introduce glidders to each other?

 Podo and Kodo

:) I finally got home last night at about 10:45pm with our suggies!!!!! FINALLY!!!!! The wait has almost been unbearable. They did great on the long drive home (a little over 6 hrs). Podo (neut. male) crabbed at me once while giving them water but than they both drank away!! The female is a sweet little thing! She nipped at me a couple of times but not hard at all and only b/c when I went to put them in the cage she escaped (not knowing me so well) and I had to try to get her in w/o grabbing her but trying to get her to climb on my hand. She hasn't crabbed once at me! The male is a little crabby but once he gets out of the pouch he is fine! When we went to pick them up the breeder let us play with them and they were all over us. They are very friendly and you can tell they have been well taken care of! Their parents and all of her 15 gliders are so healthy and their cages so clean! :) I am very satisfied with this breeder. I absolutely love my babies! They kept me all night barking and banging around in the cage! haha they love their set that I have in there currently (the flour. pink and green frog set). I am waiting until Wednesday to start the bonding process so they can get use to everything! They are so much more adorable in person! :)

How to get your glider to stop bite'n!

Posted by: Jaclyn13

Thus may sound mean but it works.

I read this on a website, you get a bike horn.

and EVERYTIME your glider bites hold the horn against your tummy (so it is not as loud) and squeek it.

I have been doing this with my glider for 3 days and he no longer bites knuckles and elbows. THANK GOD! cuz when he bit you he did NOT let go, and it hurt like hell.

Last night my dad was laying doqwn in the tent during play time and Oliver ran across his leg and what do ya know oliver bit him. lol i guess now we r ganna have to have him climb on legs and feet and show him not to bite there.

But it works! YAY!

 I just don't get it

All these people are talking about how bad ferrets smell and what methods they use to control the smell but my gandalf doesn't smell at all and we don't use any odor eliminator. When we first got him he smelled horrible like the pet store and Tim bought this raspberry spray conditioning stuff but I've never used it and I've only given him two baths with soap since I've had him.

He really doesn't smell and definitely doesn't smell as bad as the gliders. He's a lot cleaner than the gliders too. If I could do it all over again I'd probably not have gliders and just have ferrets.

 He Does Love Me!!!

Posted by: swayze

So my baby is finally bonded enough to me to know what i'm doing before i do it, to jump on me w/o me asking and w/o me having to sit and wait for him to get comfortable with me. This was proven to me not 30 minutes ago when booger jumped on to me as soon as i let him out of the cage. He did not get out last night b/c i had a final this morning and it would be hard to deal with him in the morning as well as everything else...anyways.
So i went to let him out b/4 bringing him food and i guess thats what what he wanted. he wouldn't get off me. and if i tricked him to jumping off as soon as i walked away he would jump right back on me. it was so cute. Hes never done that. but he knew that i had to leave the room to get food and i guess he wanted to go with me, but hes never allowed out of that room. But yeah...i loved it. i just wanted to share how happy he makes me. hes so damn cute.

 Shut it Stimpy

Last night Stimpy was barking.... then i got him to stop and Trinity started. Even the little babies sat perfectly still and so did ren and leia in the other cage.

It's all very strange.
