 Bonding!

Posted by: BonnyHop
-----
I can say that there is progress.
Especially last night.I noticed that she wasn't jumping about even though she was out of her pouch.I did the tent test and she didn't seem dehydrated but I checked the water bottle just in case. The little ball was stuck, god knows how that happened. My poor baby!So i got a dish of water and put it right next to her but she wasn't drinking. So I dipped my finger in the water and put it in front of her.She licked the water off.The first couple of times she lightly nibbled in an attempt to get more water but she quickly realized that that wasn't working. So I stayed up giving her water like that for a good half an hour.It was serious bonding.I also pet her while she's eating her meal worm so that she is distracted and not tempted to bite me but as of today I was able to pet her without any distractions. It rained all day today so I made her a little blankie for extra warmth.Gosh,I love her!

 1/22- Kirby

Kirby is now at home!! He was brought home on Saturday. I have to say he is the sweetest glider I know! He snuggles up on me and sleeps on me, he won't let go of me and will run for my hand to climb on me. He loves cherries!

I'm already bringing him with me everywhere, I'm trying to form a really good bond with him (hes with me at work right now).

Thats all for now!

 I was up all night

Posted by: BonnyHop

I was up all night because I had a lot of school work to finish and Lucy got up around 1.I gave her mealies by placing a small piece of felt on my hand and then a mealie on top(I didn't want the meal worm to touch me,I know,I'm a little baby)so she'd have to at least touch and smell me to get it.She wasn't afraid either.I think the meal worm distracted her from realizing that is was me.
I stopped feeding them to her and did some homework until around 6.I opened the door so I could stick a mealie in her cage and she jumped out while I was getting the mealie.
I tried coaxing her into her pouch but she just wanted to jumped around.Eventually I got her back in though.

I totally spoiled her this morning, lets just say I lost count of how many mealies she ate at 15 and she still managed to eat some of the other food. The lil piggy!

 It seems to me....

It seems like there's a lot of poor little gliders out there today who are sick,or not doing to well and it just makes my heart hurt.
I hope they all get better!

Lucy doesn't seem to like me...I tried tent time last night and she just stayed curled up crabbing for 20 minutes...I offered her a mealie and she baked away from it.I woke up every hour to make sure that she was up.I want to make sure that she has a good awake to sleep ratio. She seems to wake up for 4-6 hours and then sleep all day.I read poems to her for an hour last night as a way for her to get used to my voice,I also did it today while she was sleeping.

I bought some new, smaller, less gross meal worms.I'm hoping she'll eat them.I can't wait for a friend for her.

Update:
She ate as many mealies as I would give her!I know I probably shouldn't have given her so many because she might not eat the veggies, fruits, and meat she should but it just made me feel so good when she took them so eagerly. For some reason it gave me a huge feeling of satisfaction. She ate 8 so far.I'm so happy! Now I'm thinking I should have gotten the 100 count meal worm container instead of the 50 count. The container didn't have any gross pupa either.
I imagine she ate so many because I didn't give her any treats today.I thought there was no reason.I decided to give her treats when she's up,like with the mealies.

More gabbing about my new glider.

Ok,so she came out and explored for around two minutes before she found the other fleece pouch and promptly climbed in.She hasn't paid any attention to the meal worm although she did eat the two I gave her last night but those were smaller. My cats sit outside the door to my room where I keep her and stick their paws underneath the door,it's hilarious. They're starting to get bored though.

I'm thinking about Lucy for a name, her personality lends itself to the name Lucy.

 So far,so good....

I bought some nice soft fleece and made all these little pouches....they're all over the place, but she still won't come out of her sockie.I went to the pet store and got some more stuff.I got yogurt bites, which she loves, some more meal worms(which are quite frankly gross)and some dried food toppers which are basically dried cherries and what not.She crabbed at me horribly when I was putting the pouches in but I gave her one of the yogurt bites and she took from my hand when she smelled it!I'm so happy. :]

 My little baby.

Ok,so she's not a little baby but it feels like it.
Last night she didn't wake up until 1am,I know because I sat in the dark watching for her to come out,I was able to see because of the street lamp outside.
When I was putting food in her cage earlier she crabbed at me like crazy but when she was just hanging around the cage she didn't crab even when I stroked her.She ate the mealies, the yogurt, and the 1 raspberry but didn't care for anything else.
I bought some of those fuzzy socks from walgreens and cut them until about 3 or 4 inches from the toe and she just loves to sleep in them...she sticks out her little head and she looks like a little baby wrapped up in a blanket.
I love her already!
I'm on a quest for a cage buddy but so far the only person in my area is charging $650 for regular little joey's,plus they're boys, and I don't want a pregnant suggie.
I think I should let her get adjusted before I get her a playmate anyways....I imagine the introduction period could be stressful.
She doesn't like the wheel....I was thinking it might be to small,so I'm going to a local pet store for a new one and maybe a hamster ball,of course that kind of makes me worry because what if she gets thirsty?Or hungry?Or tired? On second thought, that's probably a bad idea.
I made a yellow hammock for the corner,I made sure that it was well secured and it has braided ropes of the same kind of material coming off of it to the other sides of the cage...plenty to climb on. :]

 My baby is 9 today!

Posted by: kyro298

I know there are lots of people older than me and younger than me on this site, but geez, I can't believe he's 9 today. There's no exaggeration when people talk about time flying the older you get. I just need to remember to leave the dishes in the sink a little longer sometimes and play games with them or watch a movie with them or ANYTHING else. My hubby is suddenly turning gray and I have arthritis in my pinkies!! What the heck?? LOL Anyway, just having a reminiscent moment of Christian being a baby...we'll have to break out home videos tonight after the party. I haven't seen them in years and I got THE best Christmas present...my hubby got them all switched to DVD and I will now MAKE the time to have us all sit down and watch them..even my daughter should think they're "cool". hehe

 1/18: Blah news!

Kaz- They are all seperate as of now, eventually we would like to put Melody and Adalee together. My main goal one day would be to put my suggies together and have my bf's suggies together. One step at a time!

Okay, the bf believes the little girl (Melody) is not eating, so I fed her by hand. Now we think that she wasnt ready to leave mommy yet. Therefore tonight we're going to bring her back to our friend and tell him whats going on.

The thing is I don't understand, she ate alittle the night before, and last night she wasnt eating at all. I don't know what to think besides maybe she doesn't need to eat so much because of her size, so thats why we're bringing her back. The sad thing is, I got attached to her last night! She was sleeping in my hand when she would usually glide off of everybody and run away. I will update whats going on as soon as I can!

Im currently at work now (and stinky! jeez), and have to work 11-7am tonite *Passes out*

 1/17: I want a journal entry too!

Well, we (my bf and I) need to stop adopting gliders!! After Kirby, we will have offically 7 suggies, and the bowls arn't fitting in the microwave anymore [LOL].

*Adalee (I think thats how you spell her name): I got her for my bf for xmas, shes I believe 4 months old and some weeks (I need to look it up). She had to go to the vet because she was going at her tail! When we picked her up, we thought her tail did look funny. So our friend, who we got the baby from, paid for the vet visit and even offered us a glider to keep her busy! Which I thought was really nice of him!

*Melody (Mel for short): She is younger than Adalee (picked her up last night so we dont know much about her yet lol)

We put the both of them in the tent to do a little intro, Melly was kind of scared and kept picking her hand up at Adalee and crab once.

*Kirby: The baby boy, when I visited him he wasnt ready to leave yet, he wasnt ready to eat mom and dad's food! So hopefully he'll be ready by Feb 2nd! =)

****Updates on the other babies*********

*Boo: Shes still my innocent sweetheart! Nothing new with her, besides the fact that I need to make her a new bonding pouch lol

*Beba: I made him the awesome bonding pouch! lol

Gizmo: She seems to be finally coming around, she escaped when I was playing with her today and she paused and looked at me and started making different little funny faces! 1st they scared me cuz I thought something was wrong with her! But apparently it was more like a "Nah nah nahhhh nah you cant catch me" face lol

[Edit] (Thanks to Kyro) hehe
Georgie (my bf's glider): I believe hes related to Gizmo, because theyre so much alike, he seems to be more crabby however. He knows his name and knows when its treat time(literally comes running when he hears a crackle from a bag thinking its treat time!)

Now I'm rambling XD! Thats all for now! =)

A sugar glider cage sings through the night

Posted by: kazko
-----
A night or two ago I was up around 1:00am or such and noticed a lot of barking coming from the office. I went to check it out figuring that all of the cages were barking at each other and that was not the case. Three sugars from the Sugar Shack colony were packed into a single exercise wheel and were singing together. It was the oddest thing to see and rather unexpected. Watching them bark randomly together it almost appeared as if I was watching a whac-a-mole game in operation.

So far I have yet to ever see a pattern from who barks, when they bark and how they bark. It truly does appear random. Some times some cages bark and some times some cages dont. There really does not seem to be a main barking cage or any specific members that bark.

Robin the four eyed possum is healing

Posted by: kazko
-----
Robin's suture area on her chest appears to be healing well. It is clean and dry with nothing to report. She weighed in at 1.54 pounds which means she is holding her weight now. Her antibiotics are being sprinkled on her food now and we havent done any syringe feedings or meds in many days.
