Jan 30, 2008 new cage Posted by: RunningCantalope I had the most wonderful and huge cage in mind that looked great on paper but didn't transfer well :( it'll do for a temp. cage but It jsut wont stand the test of time :( so now I must go back to lowes and use wood rather than pvc-I would warn anyone that reads this and ever considers constructing their own cage-do it right the first time and use wood. Then again, it could just be me...and I could just suck at building things...anyway-they seem thankful for the additional 2 feet, so they can live in peace in their wobbley new home until i get the wood needed...I found those edible logs, and loki (my male) is having a great ol time as sif ( his GF) is eating all their applesauce...I think she's gonna have a baby. (with hope ^.^) and if i could make any other reccomendation is to get your gliders the weeble treehouse-mine love it. HA! I also have a pet cat, pear (shes fat) and she is terrified/curious about loki and sif. but loki likes to scare the crap outta her by jumping on her back and riding her like a wild horse...until shes able to do a frantic death roll knocking loki off as I coem running and she scampers away and doesn't come back until they are on my sholder or in their cage....*sigh* thank god shes not an agressive cat..I dont know what I would do if she ever tried to hurt them. But sure enough, its never even come close. Now all I have to worry about is that second new cage and gettign them to eat their mealworms! <near to impossible....*sigh* Jan 30, 2008 somethings wrong?? Posted by: Dania1029My sugar glider yo-yo is scaring me !!! he trys to crab me to bite me !! why is he doing this !! he doesnt like me ??? am i doing something wrong with him !!! or is it because everytime he does it i get scare and i take my hand away an i scare him 2 !!! WAS WRONG? Jan 29, 2008 Honey I'm home Posted by: PugzYoda got out of the cage last night when I was getting their food. I thought I shut the cage door but when I came back it was open. I was hoping they were both still in there. Sure enough one was missing. I thought oh boy here we go again. As I was puting their food in the cage I heard some noise by the tv I looked over and there she was running around the tv and then up the outside of the cage. I let her run alittle and she finally found the door and went in on her own and Miyagi crabbed at her a couple of times. Whew! Jan 28, 2008 please help! Posted by: sugarglider1017my mom wont let me have a sugar glider! what can i do to persuade her to let me have one? Jan 28, 2008 So cold! Posted by: BonnyHopLast night she wasn't playing very much.I was worrying all through the night. She wasn't dehydrated or anything.I went to sleep around 2 and set my alarm for 4 to check on her.It was freezing! No wonder she wasn't jumping around.I turned the heat up and checked on her,she had eaten almost all her food (thank gosh).I gently petted her and she looked up at me with these huge eyes.I put a little felt blanket on her,it was so soft. She's all warmed up now.I feel badly that I let it get so cold!Next time I'll be sure to set the heat. I heard her bark for the first time the night before last.Actually it woke me up...I can't quite figure out why she did it. Jan 28, 2008 Losing my sugargliders.... Posted by: mel I've seen so many gliders come and go for so many reasons. Usually it is the unresearched who start to face unexpected issues when raising these exotic pets with special needs. They say oh, I've researched a lot yet say things that we know should come up in the care of a glider. There is diet and nutrition which may be controversial but leads to awful health issues. There are the social needs of glider companionship to ANOTHER glider, bonding techniques, false impressions of gliders are all cute and cuddly. Unethical breeders and pet stores who give false info. Always research yourself. There are adequate and safe housing needs, breeding and anatomy, glider safe cage sets, toys, wood, etc. Your own home needs to be glider safe esp. bathrooms. Emergency kits for medical or travel are needed. What to do if you lose your glider in your home. Often there are no EXPERIENCED vets or even vets who see them. Let's not forget state and LOCAL regulations vary. Some people move unexpectedly but if you're in the military, college or a highly transferable job you may come across a move to an illegal location. Please reconsider a glider as a pet. They live up to 15 years. College kids should be concentrating on studies, social life and future goals. Young children should rarely have special needs pets such as exotics and teacup or toy dog breeds. Sorry just a reality as you can see from researching accidents and such. These situations would best suit a hardy, docile reptile such as a bearded dragon. I have had a taste of the unwanted sugar gliders from such situations by railroading numerous gliders from one place to another. I can't imagine those who are railroading often and have rescues themselves and their thoughts on this matter. Well I'm here to tell you there may be allergy related issues as well as asthma triggers. When I first researched, every avenue said they were non allergenic for lack of better wording. I came across many who had allergies themselves such as to cats but not allergic to gliders. I'm not sure exactly when but I began to get asthma attacks. It increased over time. Anyone who has asthma attacks knows the feeling. I began to diligently look for the problem. I also continued to resaerch and found one posting from some time back, not here, where a lady had the same experience as myself and everyone opposed her yet she also seemed to go to the legnths to figure out her trigger as well. She did the allergist specialist and all. I also went to the allergist specialist. For those of you who are unaware. There is no testing for sugargliders. I am told to get one created would be a huge dollar figure which one person could not take on. Even if there were testing it does NOT guarantee an allergy to your SPECIFIC pet. This includes the testing done for cats, dogs, etc. For ex. The test could say you are NOT allergic to dogs but you could be allergic to YOUR dog or vice versa. Well with this I am desperate to rid myself of asthma attacks. There is no guarantee that my asthma attacks will end. But I too lose my gliders. So these are MY thoughts for the day. Jan 27, 2008 so far its going great Posted by: bpretty21day 2 of introducing my male and female. so far its going great! im so excited. they r smelling of each other and play on each others cages. im thinking maybe in 5 days of letting them in the same cage. Jan 27, 2008 not again Posted by: PugzI get up between 3:30 -4am every morning to feed Chelsey (my diabetic pug). while she is eating I open Miyagi and Yoda's cage to talk, pet and give them a grape. The past 2 mornings one has gotten out while I am distracted by talking to the other. I think they plan this because after their caught and back in their cage and me and chelsey are back in bed I hear them giggling. I will be smarter tomorrow. Jan 26, 2008 More progress, even if it did come in a problematic way. Posted by: BonnyHopShe got out of her cage this morning!I'm not even sure how, maybe I left the door undone. So it was around 6 and I went over to check on her and to my dismay, she was on the side wall of the cage, outside of it!So I tried to get her but I'm so scared of hurting her that every time I got my hand around her I just let go.So I was chasing her and she was jumping all over the place and then, progress!,she jumped onto me!I don't think she really wanted to but the point is that she's not scared of me!So I went next to the cage and she jumped onto it then I shooed her into the cage itself. She's a sneaky little girl but she's so lovable! Jan 25, 2008 No biting Posted by: BonnyHopSo,this morning around 3-5 she was bouncing all over the place.I had given her food earlier and when I got up (I set the alarm so I can spend some one on one time with her while she's awake and alert)every single scrap was gone....and then she tried chewing on the container!I gave her as much as any other night, and she hadn't eaten all that food. So,I got up and gave her some more food,a little of each food item. She ate everything except the pieces of carrot and some of the fruit.I put my hand next to the food so that she'd have to come in contact with it to eat.She walked right up,nibbled on a finger(I hardly felt it)smelled my hand and licked my pinky. She then continued onto the food. She hasn't crabbed at me for a while now.She lets me pet her and touch her little hands, she doesn't want to climb onto me though.I read that your not suppose to pick them up,but instead let them climb onto you so I'm not pushing it. Jan 24, 2008 Today Posted by: BonnyHopI fed her less mealies last night...maybe 6.She ate all her food except for a few bits of carrot and apple. She crabs at me less and she's staring to wake up a little earlier, around 11 or 12.At my local exotic pet store the mealies cost $5 for 100 count. That's around 20 days worth if I feed her 5 a day.Maybe I'll start a meal worm farm....I don't know if she eats enough for it though...hmm. I stopped doing the bonding pouch because she crabs at me and she doesn't get enough sleep.Instead I've been petting her and talking to her and what not.I wish she'd climb on me....and play with me.I know it just takes time though.
