New to owning a sugar glider please help

Posted by: Detzler12

I got a 8 week old sugar glider 2 weeks ago and I named him Jack. When we first got him he crabbed a little bit but not too bad and seemed to be adjusting to me and my husband well. Then by the time we had him for a week he seemed to be pretty bonded and would let us touch him and he would sleep on us without any crabbing. During his first week and a half with us I kept him in a smaller cage because I had to order his cage online and I had not received it yet. Well I got his big cage last Thursday and since we put him in the big cage he has gotten really mean and as soon as we out out hand near the cage he lunges and tries to attack. Does anyone have any suggestions on why. He is now ten week oop.

 Bonding?

About a couple days ago I received a year old male sugar glider from my cousin. My cousin told me that his recent owners never played with and neglected him. So I've been trying to make up for what they put him through, but I'm struggling a lot. He lets me give him treats and rub him, but he will not under any circumstances let me pick him up. When ever I try to pick him up her either bites me or crabs at me. I also can't pick him up because he hides in his wheel all day long. Should I take the wheel out? I don't know what to do. I'm afraid to pick him up because when ever I try I get bitten or crabbed at. I don't know what to do. HELP!!!

aggressive 10 week old male. help.

Alright so i got 2 8week oop babies, brother and sister, about 2 weeks ago. I will be neutering the boy soon. The girl was an absolute sweety pie by the second night. Loves to crawl around on me, has never bitten and only crabs when her brother is crabbing right next to her. He is completely different which is to be expected. He crabs nonstop, lunges, bites hard and absolutely refuses to calm no matter how long i hold him. I just kinda ball him up in some fleece and hold him to me, gently massage him and speak very softly. He quiets momentarily but that is all. He is what i expected out of both of them honestly. I know i got lucky with her. He is aggressive toward her when i have tent time. Anytime she comes near him when they are outside of their cage he crabs and bites at her until she goes away. What is this behavior? He used to be protective of her and would crab at her from the back of the cage for coming to us until she would turn around and come back to him. He no longer keeps her from us but keeps his own distance from everyone including her when they are out with us. He also lunges at my hands from across the cage when i am just placing their food in there. Any advice on anything else i could be doing to help the bonding? I have a shirt in their cage with my scent, i handle them nightly for at least 2 hours and at least once in the day to give them some hydrating treats in their pouch. She likes to play for a minute and eat from my hand. He won't even take the treat and crabs the whole time. I know its only been 2 weeks but i didnt expect him to bite and lunge so hard and so persistently. It doesn't stop until he goes back to his cage/pouch no matter how long i try each night. Andy suggestions are welcome.

 A little worried now

I have been doing a lot of reading on here about what you all feed your Gliders. I have had mine since the end of 2010. They had 2 previous owners, (I hate that word), and I am now the third. Though my babies are healthy, I want to give them a more natural diet. See, their previous owners, fed them a diet of baby food, and one special mixture of baby cereal, honey, and raw wheat germ, which they love. My babies are VERY picky, and every time I try to introduce a healthy new food, they reject it! I have tried all kinds of suggestions, but am desperate to get them on a better diet. I am not really sure of their ages, as I am the third person to have these babies. I am worried about the quality of life, and their lifespans being shortened by this seemingly menial diet; though they are doing well, and seem quite happy. Any suggestions on how I can get them to transition to a more natural and varied diet? Thank you :)

Update on my 2 males housing situation!

So! I thought this was neat so I wanted to share. my two males were in the same cage for a while then they started fighting and being territorial blah blah you all probably have herd how that can go. Weeell I was going to get them neutered but due to the cost and I was unsure of the vets in my area I just put them in two separate cages right next to each other and they have done fine ever since! I always get them out in pairs and they haven't had a bad episode since :) at first I was nervous to do this because I didn't know if they'd interact well but they do!

Their cages have been like this for probably around 6 months and I still see positive results! Just thought that was cool.

Update on my little guy.. He is doing better. I mixed some honey with his water and he is now drinking it on his own. Gonna try to give him some red Apple again and hopefully he eats it. I am hand feeding him also. He's not dehydrated so that's not an issue. He does t act sick or anything. But I am the only one that he will let hold him :) so that's a plus for me :)
