Does anyone else get a bee in their bonnet about something, focus on that for awhile (sometimes months - even years), then suddenly just lose interest, and pick up a new obsession?

I've done that all my life. I'll learn as much as I can about my current obsession (like cane making). Then I implement what I've learned. Typically, I take it to an obsessive extreme (like making about 60 of 'em). I got all wrapped up in rare gemstones, naturally followed by jewelry-making in silver and gold settings. I went crazy on that, and finally had to create a website to market the stuff! But, I had to learn website building, HTML and JavaScript to do that. Computer programming grabbed a hold of me, and I taught myself to program in about six different computer languages. That turned into an obsession on computer added design (CAD). That lead to designing my dream home on architectural CAD ... which lead to actually building it (I mean literally - my husband and I did all of the framing, plumbing, etc.) ... which led to obsessing on learning about wall painting techniques, laying ceramic tile, making my own bathroom counters with imbedments, sewing curtains, reupholstering furniture ... Learning the CAD turned into an occupation. Thank goodness I taught myself that. It was a natural field to get into when I could no longer tour the country because of my MS. That's the one obsession that I've had all my life, and never lost interest in: painting wildlife. I guess I'm just obsessively-compulsively creative.

But Geez, I'm tired!

What are your obsessions?

I went through a pottery phase for about 2 years...got a TON of bowls out of it but that's about it. LOL I like to paint abstracts and I went through a phase where I had to paint the "perfect" abstract with the "perfect" colors and I kept trying until I had one I finally liked and then the obsession went away. It wound up being a 4' x 5' oil on canvas and it's hanging in my dining room. I still get the itch sometimes and I'll make something smaller. Hmmmm what else? I'm forever obsessed with word puzzles, does that count? LOL

Whew! That made me tired just reading your post!!! What an interesting life you have!!!

My obsessions? Hmmmm - let me think....

Dogs and Dog shows - professional dog grooming of show dogs - all dog grooming equipment. That is until I had major back surgery 9 years ago and can no longer do any of it. This took up 11 years of my life. Went to handling classes - grooming school and studied under the best groomers who did hand scissoring of Bichon Frise. I am a Certified Master Groomer. Taught others how to groom their Bichon Frise, my specialty. Had my own grooming shop in the basement of my house in St. Louis. Worked with the Bichon Frise Club of America Rescue for many years. Member of the Greater St Louis Bichon Frise Club and Bichon Frise Club of America. Traveled all over the US to dog shows and grooming seminars and competions. Dont get me wrong, I still absolutely love and adore my dogs, they just dont look as pretty as they used to.

Sugar Gliders and all things related. Especially anything medical. Spend hours reading forums and any articles I can find on them. Very much enjoy the time I spend here with all my suggie friends. Always on the look out for suggies toys, things to make suggie toys and places to purchases suggie toys, cage sets, etc. Have an extensive fleece collection, even tho I dont sew.

Jewelry - the store bought kind. I can no longer afford this obsession, but will never quit looking.

I can't afford the store bought kind either. That's why I started setting my own gemstones! LOL

So you just have critters in your blood, doncha? Got any pictures of the pooches? (I'm ridiculously visual, and I wanna see pics of people's obsessions.) I wanna see Kyro's painting too. Hey, I had the guts to show mine!!

Wow I agree with Rita dizzysmom...phew I am exhausted!!! :) Wish I was that active. The only thing that really interest me are Suggies and stuff to do with suggies, animals in general and nature itself. But I can't say I am really obsessed with any of it... Oh and I forgot poetry. I could also read all day long and forget to eat.. does that count?

I wish I could forget to eat! That'll never happen ...

For a couple of weeks there, I was in morel obsession mode. Now, I'm fixated on redecorating my son's room since he moved out. It's been almost a year, and I reckon he won't be moving back in. While he lived here, it was so scarey in there that I put Crime Scene tape across the door one day.

I must sound like a nut case to you guys ... but I learn a heck of a lot this way ... and I have great fun!!

One other thing I haven't lost interest in is my DH of 23 years. I'll always be obsessed with him.

Dizzysmom you do not look or sound like a nut case! But you do seem to be very talented and that's something we all wish for!

Well, thank you! That's so sweet of you to say. But it certainly isn't normal. Not that being normal is something that I aspire to. My husband is literally a rocket scientist. He was one of the engineers that created the L.E.M. unit (the lunar excursion module) for Apollo. He's not normal by any stretch of the imagination! We both decided that being quirky together is a heck of a lot more fun.
