OMG. Tonight was def. one of the worst nights of my life. I took Giz out to show my neighbors (her kids LUVED him the last time they saw him.) It was about 8:30 or so, so pretty dark but not too dark. After I went back in, JOhn was out back so I took Giz with me (he LUVS to run across the pole at the top of our outside swing. Well he got frisky and jumped. I immediately got to him but he ran right through my hands and under the shed, with my 2 cats!!! NO, my cats did nothing. I had a flashlight and I couldn't even see him. I searched forever. Finally John yelled that Giz was in the TREE!!! OMG!!! Then he yelled for me to just go, it was too late. The neighbor cat got him. Well that did not stop me, I bolted to the neighbors house and had Giz in my hands in less than 1 minute. I was checking him over everywhere, and there was no blood on him at all. But he seemed to be in shock, so I got into the house and wrapped him in a towel and got on here in the chat and begged for help. (Thx girls and guys!!!) I then called my freind Ashley since she works at an animal hospital, so I could get directions. I went to look at my baby while JOhn finished getting his shoes on and he was very limp, but still breathing, and heart rate seemed good, but all the sudden he did that agonal breath, and his heart stopped. I did cpr, and breathed for him, but it did no good. He was gone. My poor baby. He was everyone's favorite. I know I am at fault for this for taking him outside and I would give anything to take it back. I put him in the very first pouch I made and will bury him in the morning. My poor other babies will miss him so much :(

Oh no! I am so, so sorry to read this! I know how much you loved Gizmo; it was very evident to everyone from reading your writings about him. Sounds like a total nightmare for you and your family. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. My heart hurts for you right now.

Really? That's all anyone has to say is "I'm sorry"? What about "that was a stupid thing to do"? Taking your glider outside? For all the new members- this is an example of what not to do.

Anyway, sorry about the glider.

To anonymous. I KNOW it was a stupid move on my part. I know what happened was my fault and I have to live with that. I had actually been on a few sites where people do take their gliders out at dusk and let them climb on their bushes. I don't have any trees or bushes in my backyard (my neighbors have 1 tree that over hangs into our yard) but I do have my swing and when I have taken my gliders out before, they are in their pouch around my neck (always just one at a time.)I do let them climb on me and on the swing, and I am watching my glider at all times. I am not making excuses for something I will never do again, but I am very careful with my babies. The only thing I did differently was take him out later, and it was pretty dark. Needless to say I will never be taking them out again.

Whoever Anonymous is--this was most definitely an inappropriate and mean-spirited thing to say to someone who clearly loved their glider very much. No matter what you think about her taking the glider outside, the way that you said it in your posting was insensitive. And, I think it was cowardly of you to post this anonymously.

By coming here and posting about Giz's death IS a warning to new owners.

When things like this happen, the owners don't have to come here and post about it. But the fact that she did tells me she wants others to think long and hard before taking their gliders outside. Yes, unfortunately it's to late for Giz, but hopefully reading what happened to him will save another gliders life.

Please, everyone learn from this and think twice before taking your gliders outside. To many unexpected things can happen in the blink of an eye that can turn tragic.

I'm so sorry to hear about Giz's death.

wow, someones a coward... why are you posting anonymously?

To Anonymous if you don't have anything to say nice. keep your mean and ugly thoughts to your self. Because DaCoSim loved Gizmo with her heart and soul and would have not done this on purpose like she said she has done that many times before. I know in my heart and soul if she would have know what was going to happen I quarantee you she would have never taken her baby outside, and for you to say what you did is very sick. I hope admins finds out who you are and bands you from here. because it seems u are going to keep the pot sterring about something.

Again DaCoSim my prayers are with you sweetie.

As usual - Rita hit the nail on the head. DaCoSim didn't have to tell us about this at all. But it is a great warning. Anything can happen to a glider that is outside. They can startle at the drop of a hat, and the situation may go completely out of control.

Im so sorry, Its very sad what happened...i dont know why i even click on the rainbow links...seems you have a lot of prayers headed your way though.

to the anonymous post and replys, i still think the average age on this site is maybe 15. Seems like a lot of dramatic little girls.

And to whomever thinks you "should never take your glider outside". It depends on your relationship with the glider. Some can in fact be completely trusted. Im sorry yours aren't.

Aww hunny I am sorry to hear that he didn't make it. I was also in the chat last night when she came in. As far as the anonymous poster it depends on the bond that you have with your glider and what you feel is ok to do with them. I would not advise that a new owner take there glider outside by any means. So sorry.

Anyone who does this is asking for tragedy. There are to many things un-foreseen that could happen here. Dont let DaCoSim's little Gizmo's death have been in vain.

General, the person who made this video is selling gliders. And it sounds to me like they will do anything to make that sale.

I'm not one that agrees with taking gliders outside either BUT this was obviously an accident. She accepted fault in her very first post and I hope people can learn something from it. No one's perfect and accidents happen..even indoors.

I'm very sorry for your loss. :(

**Very well said. Straight up front.**

DaCoSim:
Thank you for posting your story so others may learn from this. I have never taken my gliders out and now I will definately never even consider it. You were very brave to tell it knowing what very well would happen and be said. I commend you.
