You could use a screen door but make sure there is no space under the door that a glider could squeeze through. Either a good threshhold and a door with a rubber strip that meets the threshhold or a rubber sweeper blade on the bottom of the door if the floor is a hard flat surface under the door.

You might also need to make sure there is good ventilation and possibly a heat & AC vent either in the closet (glider proofed with screen or mesh over it) or one that can be aimed toward the screen door.

It's a great idea!

I have a friend who turned a closet into an aviary for her birds. I would LOVE to do one for each (birds & gliders) but unfortunately I don't have ANY extra closets -- could actually use more closet space for the humans!

Well thanks about talking about me, without knowing the whole situation.
Thanks guys!

Maybe people should mind thier own business and know the whole story before going around talking about them.

Well it would of been nice if she had posted everything I had told her, and everything she has told me.

When I had explained my situation, she proceeded to tell me that everything was fine and that she still trusted me to take care of the girls.
Now, she's gonna go ahead and say something totally different? That's funny.

The other thing that's funny, is that she has my address, both my e-mails and the phone number. Not once did i hear from her.

I think its just plain *ty that people act one way, then turn around and act another way. If someones not happy, then grow some balls and say it. Don't act like everything is ok then turn around and say its not.

Well, then I'll be the first one to say...it's between you guys now. Obviously she's upset about it and she deserves closure with it. I personally have nothing else to say about it.

It was resolved till I posted this post about trying to give them a BIGGER home, to make them even more HAPPY!

I understand why she's upset, but damn why tell me everything was ok and fine but then turn around and do something else.

Maybe she was trying to be helpful but maybe she's tired of waiting and is starting to feel taken advantage of...

I don't know but that's my guess based on what she wrote. Plus, she's an honest and generous person. My other guess is she was hoping she wouldn't have to pursue it any further and she would just get paid without having to ask anymore. Like I said...just a guess. I'm sure she'll be more specific when she sees all of this.

*edited to say that I know I said I didn't have anything else to say about it...I was just trying to answer BUT I admit I don't know all the facts...the door is now wide open for you two to get it all completely resolved.

How would you afford the materials for the closet cage? You say you haven't got the money to pay Mollysmom, but you can afford building materials?

Just saying, Sheesh that is harsh

Aviaries often use an "air lock" for human sized doors. This way you can be extra careful when closing the internal door to not crush any feet.

I might suggest designing a door with a step over threshold like in a submarine. This should make it a little harder to accidentally catch someone in the door when it is being closed.

You might also look for pinch points and find ways to resolve those. A good idea for a door is a raised or surface door instead of a flush door. Flush doors have all sorts of unforgivable pinch points especially at the hinges, but a raised door that overlaps the opening may be a little more forgiving; so more of a hatch. You see this in some better bird houses and nest boxes.

Or you could make a door like a PVC pipe cage door.

Hey, while we are on this topic, I just bought a nice large cage made out of wood, and would like to make it easier to clean and less likely to absorb organics and start smelling before I put gliders and their food in there. I don't really want to use something toxic like varnish. Someone suggested Linseed oil. Does anyone on here have any thoughts on this?

Not only the cleaning part but I know Boo chewed three holes on my wall one night when her cage was to close. I would think you would have to put that mesh stuff up and space it where their little teeth could not get the dry wall etc..what ever it is a wall is made of..LOL

Most homes have concrete slab under the carpet. I would rip up everything to bare that and then use a wet/dry vac or even an extractor to keep it clean.

If your home has a wood floor, using a closet is a bad idea; might as well just use a large cage.
