I found a Trader Joes in St Louis. LOVE that store!! I was able to get the papaya & mango jiuce and protein powder and have made the suggie soup. What a mess I made and will do it differently next time.

I do have a question, tho. I put the suggie soup in ice cube trays to freeze. The next night, I was going to pop out a couple of cubes, but it wasnt frozen solid. Everything else in the freeze is solid, so I know that is not the problem. What I want to do is freeze and then empty the cubes into a freezer bag to free up my ice cube trays.

Is this normal? Have I done something wrong?

Hi I really want to try your soup for my glider. However I had a question about the juices. Can you use the jumex brand of mango and Papaya juices?

I always have to "pop" the cubes out by scooping them with a small spoon. They sort of hold their shape, but I put them laid out on wax paper in layers in a Tupperware freezer container. I wonder since it doesn't get super frozen if it would be just as easy to freeze it like a pint of ice cream and spoon the appropriate amount out each evening. I think the honey keeps it semi-soft, even in a frozen state.

I'm not familiar with these but it would depend on the ingredients.

I currently have mine on HPW and Dahlia's recipes. If I am reading all of this right then I would feed the soup, a fruit,a veggie and a protein source?

I had thought that the protein would come from the Wombaroo powder. I know that you use Trader whatsis and not Wombaroo but if I use the Wombaroo do I then need another protein source?

I think I'm getting a headache

A suitable substitute for the Trader Darwin's Vanilla Flavored soy is the Arnold's Choice Possum Milk Replacer. See this URL:

It is listed. That's where I got it to post it above and that's how I ordered it myself. Do you just mean having it listed more prevalently?

I think that's what she means. I know it was in there, but I still spent time searching for it when I needed to buy it.

yes kyro i can see it just fine but for some reason people dont see it maybe if it was in bold or something. i almost always have to tell them the site to go to. i really dont know why this happens since it has a footnumber with it maybe they think the footnotes location would be at the bottom of the page instead of after the recipe?

Thanks for the input everyone. See page 2 of the modified "official" document here:

As you will see we made the references to sourcing the ingredients more prominent and we have added alternate sources as well.

What is the maximum amount that the honey in the recipe can be reduced to? I have a colony of three that have refused to eat any diet (HPW, BML, Candy's Blended). I've had some success with the LGRS (reducing honey by 1/4 cup) though they have retreated to only eating their fruits and veggies with only a small amount of LGRS consumed.

These little guys eat sap and nectar in the wild and that's really sweet so the honey approximates that. We only recommend cutting back on the honey if your gliders get fat on it. But if they are not eating the soup so much and favor fruits and veggies you are actually ahead of the game... because in most cases it's the other way around...

Anyway, the only problem with them ignoring the soup and mostly eating fruits and veggies is that most fruits and veggies are upside-down Ca:P-wise. You can fix that by adding a little calcium powder to those relishes or by using relishes that are 2:1 from the start. Check out the resources tab here and look under "nutrition" and you will see a lot of recipes for fruit and veggie mixes that are 2:1.

One pinch of calcium powder (1/8th of a teaspoon) can be spread over 10 servings of glider food and that will yield between 15 - 25 mg per serving. Most gliders will not metabolize the 25 mg because most don't actually eat the whole serving. They will end up metabolizing 10 - 15 mg. If they do eat *everything* then you can spread a pinch across 15 servings or slightly more.

That said, I would continue feeding the fruit and veggie mixes and a little soup on the side - adjusted for what they eat.

The other alternative is to blend the fruits and veggies in with the soup so they eat the whole mixture. Then you can feed them "hard" treats like mealworms and such on the side so they have the fun of holding on to something when they eat.

'Hope this helps

I made the soup tonight, it took me 1 1/2 hours to make it, but I had to liquefy the fruits and grind my own bugs.

So far I am getting great reactions from all four of my girls.

I throw the bugs in at the beginning with the bee pollen, oj, yogurt and half of the fruit. It comes out about the size of the fine grind black pepper. Can you actually get it finer than that? I've thought about using a spice/coffee grinder, but I wasn't sure if it would work better.

I've used a submerision blender so it's possible, just takes a little longer. It's a little quicker in the blender though because of all the fruit.

I don't mind longer I just really don't have the space for another appliance, not even in a cupboard. My poor kitchen doesn't even have drawers and I had to buy a "pantry" that I keep in my dining room for non perishables. LOL

Just make sure you cut the fruit to about 1 square inch instead of larger chunks, it'll make the blending easier if you're using the submersion blender.
