I'll be taking a road trip from Vegas to Flagstaff AZ on Sunday to meet some people from Albuquerque half-way who are surrendering a female glider. Will be at the Chilis on Milton road at noon then heading back in case anyone from AZ would like to meet for a cup of coffee before I return.

Bummer! I'd love to sit down with you again. Even my husband said, "For a glider geek (that's what he calls me), I admit he's pretty cool". LOL Trust me, it was a compliment!

Too bad you aren't coming TO Albuquerque. I'm 30 minutes S. of Alb.
Haha... Glad they're surrendering rather than handing them over to a pet store or leaving them in their cage alone.

They seem very conscientious. Apparently a few other members of the original colony died. Not sure of the entire background, but they are concerned about the loneliness factor and what us to pair her up if possible right away. Her name is Dizzy. They have a huge 6 foot cage they wanted to donate and they were willing to PAY for a rental truck so I could haul it, but I declined because we have no more room for giant cages. They are offering also to send monthly stipends to pay for food and health care. They are also driving 4-5 hours each way to meet me so all in all they seem very well intentioned.

If you want to make the trip to Flagstaff, I will be there at noon on Sunday

I'd LOVE to meet with you but I have $8 in my bank account to last me until the 16the or 17th. =(

Do you know what they're planning on doing with the cage? Are they going to sell if? If so, hoe much?
I would LOVE to get my girls a bigger cage (when I get the money). I'm just broke right now because I just paid rent. Rent always kills me. I'm even having a yard sale this weekend to try and make some extra money.

Ed, let me know if you are ever in SC for any reason! :D

Good luck with the new girl! Sounds like her owners really want the best for her. Wish they could all be like that...

Well, Flagstaff AZ was snowy and rainy yesterday, but we got little "Dizzy" home safe and sound.

Dizzy is 6 years old and she lost her lifelong cage mate 9-year-old Misty in late January.

She was running on a wodent wheel that was in the (very clean) cage she came in for part of the trip.

The family who transferred her to us was very kind and conscientious - wanting us to find a cage mate for little Dizzy. Turns out the couple who met me half-way from Albuquerque were not the ones who got the gliders to begin with - that was a young man who went off to college. A sad but so typical thing - for a teenager to get a glider and two years later go off to school and leave the animals for mom and dad to take care of. Same thing happened to Makudo and Pete over a year ago - also railroaded from Albuquerque.

Anyway, Dizzy seems to be in good health despite some over-grooming on the top of her head. She reminds us of Bonnie and with any luck we will be able to pair them after quarantine.

Here's a photo of the little one I took with my iPhone in the car yesterday:

She is cute and should do awesome on your diet-her coat should fill out and she should hopefully thin down! How is her personality? Is she as sweet as she looks?

She's a little frightened and a little bitey but I'm sure it's just the change in surroundings. I am a little concerned with the over-grooming on the top of her head and I am hoping that will subside once she is paired with another glider. Overall she seems healthy and OK. It's always tough on them when a cage mate dies but now at least she has hope in getting a new one...
