Glider on antibiotics and pain meds with diarrhea

Posted by: JLR

Hi everyone,
I recently got two new sugar gliders but sadly one had an injured foot and leg when we picked him up. We took him to the vet and he spent a week in clinic being treated. He's home now and going on week 3 of pain meds and antibiotics and has had soft stools which become watery from time to time.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could feed him to help with this? We are currently feeding both gliders a leadbeaters mix with pellets but have insectivore food ordered that the vet recommended. The girl's feces are normal.

 Sick baby...

Posted by: Slushie

Hey guys!

So Saturday morning I woke up and did my usual thing where I go to my glider cage and give my little men some morning treats and just talk to them and such. I noticed however one of my babies didn't look right...

I gently picked him up and noticed he had pooped all over his tail. I knew this couldn't be good. On top of how weak and cold he seemed. I rushed him to the closest vet I could and he has been there since Saturday.

I've been so worried all weekend, but the vet called last night and said he was no better but no worse. Today I went to visit him and the vet told me that he had been giving him medicines and little calcium shots. He said my baby had been eating and crabbing a lot. He also said he had been having solid poops now instead of messy ones.(so that's better than he was Saturday for sure..). The vet said he was concerned though because he still seems a little weak and his back legs just seem so stiff.

Have I done something wrong...? is there a way to help my baby more? I have three other Sugars and all 4 are enclosed together. The other 3 are fine! I've checked them over and they poop and pee fine. I keep their cage clean (water and vinegar) and I give them veggies and fruits every night. Along with some foraging treats like meal worms and yogurt chips. Also TOYS! Lots of nice and clean toys!

My specific questions are...

1. Is there a possibility of the HLP in my baby? I read about it only just a little bit ago. If so... How can I help him? Can I help him...? He is a 1 year and 4 months old.

2. What are other healthy things I can feed them? Certain yogurts? Honey? Any other fun treats or health foods my little men can enjoy but stay healthy?

3. This is far from important right now but I've been wondering where I can order some of the Cherry yogurt chips for my babies? I haven't found them in forever!

4. while i have a decently large sized cage I want something bigger for my babies. Where can I buy a taller cage?

I'm sure i have other questions I'm just a little overwhelmed right now and concerned for my baby... Please! Any information, health tips, or just ANYTHING you can tell me please do!! There is always more to learn and I want the best for my guys.

 Is This A Pouch Infection?

Posted by: Kinsey.ash

I have a glider named Phoebe and as long as I can remember her fur around her pouch has always been darker, like her pouch was leaking something or she was licking it. I didn't know if this was normal because my only other glider is a boy, so I recently took her to the vet where they did a swab and looked at it. They said they found some bacteria cells so they prescribed her a medicine that I have been actively giving her but its now looking any better. This was my first time going to this vet so I don't how experienced they really are, but I was recommended to this vet so that's why I went. I'm going to add some pictures I took of her pouch, and on some I'm pulling it open a bit so its not just normally open like that, but on one of them its just normal. Please reply if you can help me figure out if I'm just over reacting or if its really a pouch infection. Any help is appreciated!

 New baby...big biter!

Hello everyone!
I am a new sugar glider mom, and I couldn't have been more excited to bring my little girl home last week (I plan on buying her a companion very soon)!! I completely understand the bonding process most of the time is very slow...months even...so when my baby girl crabs or bites I get its bc its all new and she is scared of me. My problem is she doesn't just bite...she full on attacks (biting over and over drawing blood). She doesn't do this if my hand is in the cage, but anytime I try to get her for pouch time. I am trying treats even honey, but she freaks out! Making it almost impossible to handle her. I have a fleece blanket I try to cup her with, but she won't even let me get close or she bites around it bc she's on her back. I have tried tent time a few times now and if she comes out she's going crazy. She will run on me, but only to glide off trying to find her escape. I'm just not sure what to do. Completely open to suggestions...my main concern is my new babies safety and happiness.

 Male/Male NEED ADVICE!!!

Hello!
I am having issues right now with my 2 year old intact male and 8 month old neutered male. I have had my 2 year old, Billy, for as long as he was 7 months old. He has been alone until a week ago. I got Kuromo recently and he is a neutered young male. Billy immediately loved his new partner, and I think he loves him too much. He keeps licking Kuro's under side and grooming him. Just tonight, I opened their pouch and found Billy attached to Kuro with his paws hooked and he was nibbling at Kuro's neck. He only peed on him and I had to pry him off. He was desperate to attach again. Kuro seemed a little dazed, he isn't used to me yet, and the light was bright. So im sure he was a little scared of everything. He wasn't scared of Billy though. I separated them for 20 minutes and Billy was making his hissing sounds and Kuro was responding with barks. Just a few and he was trying to leave me by nipping at me. I couldn't let Billy act so desperate and I only have one water for one cage, so I can't separate them all night. I have to work early and I don't know what to do. They are together now and it sounds like Billy is running around and eating. I don't want to seperate them all day. No one has any marks or signs that they are being hurt. I am just worried that Billy will hurt him. I don't know what he is attempting and I don't know what his hissing means when they are seperate do or getting in the pouch together. I am really worried. I need help!!!

 Need Advice ASAP! Glider Constipation

So right now its 12:10 in the morning when im writing this. Today ifound my male glider around 8:00 8:20 hissing a little too much. So i thought hes probably teasing the other glider. But it continued so i thought hmm let me look at him. As i got to see what was going on he was trying to poop but it looked like he was constipated and hes cloaca was a bit swollen. So i went to buy some apples, cucumbers, strawberries, apple juice, and some 100% pure pumpkin to give it to him to help pass the poop stuck inside and for about 15/20 minutes i have been helping him push out the poop. I gave him 2 almonds yesterday which i know i should not give too often now. But he is active eating the pumpkin with the apple juice and a apple too. Im staying up tonight to see if he gets a bit better. The lady i adopted mines from works at a vet and has years of experience for gliders and i have keeping update with her. But if i can have any other advice? When will the swelling go down? Hes eating alot too. Ill be up all night hoping for a response

Still figuring out my new Glider

I need help figuring out what a noise my new glider makes means. I've had my new glider (and my first glider) for a week and I've noticed that the only noise he really makes is a bark/hiss sounding noise. He makes this sound mainly when I'm sitting on the couch at night and he is running in his wheel in his cage. I go over and sit by his cage and he stops making the noise. I don't think it's because he is bonded since it's only been a week. I am just kind of wondering what this sound is and what he is meaning by it. I know it's not crabbing because I have heard his crabbing (even though he's only crabbed twice since I've had him) and this is a very different sound.

My stepdad brought a glider home about a week ago, and Iv been spending as much time as possible with him. Everytime I try to hand feed him he goes straight to my figures, and avoids the food, and bites early hard, and also wraps his little hands around my figure and I'm not sure why, I talk to him before I take him out of the cage or before I stick him in the bonding bag, it doesn't happen everytime but pretty often, can anyone help me???

hi there,
since my family and friend haded with me talking ALL the time about my sugar glider i dicided to talk to ppl who understand me and living what im living.
iam a 31 years old female, i got away from a bad engagment and i lost myself.i letterly was living in my coach all day, watching tv till i sleep, and if and i mean if i went to work, i would spend the rest of my day in my coach watching tv,gain around 15 KG.for a whole year i've been living this way, feeling depressed and board util one day when i was wondering in instegram, i saw a cute creatur and i kept searching until i got its name, and when i was talking to my sister i told her to get me one of those as a gift :D. i start searching about how to take care of such a little creature, and by the end of the day, i found out that its difficult to have one, i dont have the time or the energy for that. forgot to tell my sister though... by the end of that week she came to my room to surprise me with her <3 ..little did i know that having her would flipp my life... she was too little, too tiny, doesnt bite, doesnt jump, just sleep and eat, she even crwal when she walks :D. taking care of her took alot of time. everyday i get her back to her cage in the living room when i go to sleep, i say to myself "i would find her dead in the morning" but when the morning comes, there she is playing in her tiny cage. i start to wake up early to get her cage from the living room to my bedroom. i would wake up energized by the thought that i would see her playing, it made me happy.. i start to go to work and never miss a day ( i used to get sickleaves, DAYS off.. like at least 8 days a month), i would come home directly afterwork just to take care of her (until i found out that i shouldnt wake her up in the middle of the day)...i start to live healthy, read books, doing all the things i used to do before i fall. she is with me since 23th of september 2015, but she has a peice of my heart.. and i love her... BTW, her name is SUGER. and suger she is to my heart

 Musings of a potential owner

For now-- I'm still in the "Contemplation" phase... As mentioned in a thread I've made recently; I'd like to do more research and get settled after I move in Feb before I go out and purchase a sugar-Glider.

I've wanted a Glider since 2014~

I really want to make sure I can provide a safe, loving, good home before I just run out and buy a Glider.
Plus, I still have some questions I'd like answered before I make my decision.
