WintersSong Fuzzy Wuzzy 1417 Posts Gliders and other animals is kind of a hot button issue. We "patronize" to make a point that it's not safe. Newcomers come here and see people bragging about how their cat/dog gets along with the gliders, and all the funny things that the gliders do with the cat, and they think it's okay. Then all of a sudden, snap, newbie's glider is gone. (I believe Ed has said there has been something like 5-8 glider deaths/injuries caused by other animals in just 2010, and we're not that far into 2010 yet...and that's just at his rescue!) On GliderCentral awhile back, a member posted that a cat ("sweetest cat in the whole world", of course, "never did anything like this before!") managed to get to scratch a glider through the cage bars. That glider died of internal injuries, caused by the scratch. My recommendation is to honestly find a way to keep the cat from the cage. Some people, from what I have heard, have done this by building a sort of cage around the cage. I find it easier to just keep my cage in a room with a closed door.... and accomplishing that was no easy task -- I had to rearrange a room, move a bookshelf and a desk out of there... Sucked, as I loved that bookshelf (which now is in my basement) but gliders safety is more important.
Some photos from our members Megs06 BANNED_ACCOUNT USA 1 Posts Although it is kinda cute that they seem to be wanting to 'get even', I'd be afraid to let a cat in the same room as my girls. I've brought my girls to work once, and that's because my girls were in the pouch around my neck all day (except from noon to two, when I put them in a travel cage in the bathroom) and the cat was in the other room with my boss, where she typically stays all day, laying on my boss' bed. Shoot, I have my gliders' cage my my chinchillas cage in the same room, and they're at opposite ends JUST IN CASE. I'm not trying to patronize you or anything, I just worry about gliders. I <3 them TONS! I also dont allow my cats in the same room as Jinx. Someone mentioned plassic that goes around cages to prevent the cat sratching through the bars i have also seen fleece covers that cover 3 of the 4 sides. As someone already said better save then sorry. I don't know about you but I like playing or spending time with my gliders. I don't want to be sad because I did something stupid. Thats just my

Those roles don't change simply because they are our pets. It is highly stressful for a glider to subjected to predators...this includes all predator animals. While some gliders aren't affected, there are those who are. I have had two gliders come to my rescue who were incredibly anxious due to the previous living situation with cats. Also, this is one of the myths put out their by mill breeders. They show pictures of cats and gliders eating together. It's simply not a good situation. Yep. Ask any rescue or educational organization, like LGRS, Kingdom Cirtters, SuggieSavers, Sugar Group, etc. and you will find out that a lot of gliders come in single because their cage mates were killed or maimed by cats or dogs. It ain't cute at all. And every time someone posts an article on how cute it is or how it is possible to introduce them, etc. some yahoo does it and another glider is killed. And the greedy liar-devils we call mill breeders propagate these stupid practices because they don't care and just want to push out more gliders to ignorant people who can't think it through on their own. Very sad.
