My daughter-in-law went in to labor around 4am this morning. The babies are only 27 weeks. She is in the hospital at present and they are trying to stop her labor. I just spoke with my son and he said she is still having contractions and if they cant stop the labor, they will have to deliver the babies.

The problem with having babies at 27 weeks is lung development.

Rita, my niece was born at 27 weeks..she was the one I posted a thread about a while ago. Guess what? She came home LAST night after being in the hospital for 3 months. She's 7+ lbs! They've come so far with technology. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. It's scary and helpless feeling...but not hopeless. <3

Actually, she was 29 weeks, I don't know why I thought 27. Maybe because that's when she was admitted.

Jess is in Missouri Baptist in St Louis. I am dying because they are not allowing her any visitors but my son. He needs to be with her and not have to worry about me sitting out in the hallway.

She is still having contractions. So we are taking things minute by minute. Of course, her OB is out of town today but will be back tomorrow, so the hospital staff cant really say much. They are meeting with a neo-natal pediatrician sometime this evening, so maybe we will know a little more.

My boss tried to get me to go home, but what would I do there except worry and fret and cry? At least here, I am kept busy.

Kylah - I hope and pray they can keep her contractions at bay for another two weeks. At this stage, every day matters. One of the guys I work with had twin girls 3 years ago and they were born at 26 weeks. They were in the hospital for 5 months. But they are fine now.

I think if I hadnt lost Kevin all those years ago, I may not be *as* upset. But I know first hand things can go wrong.

Im trying very hard to be positive. Everyone I work with is being very supportive - they are a great bunch.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. My family appreciates them so much.

I just got off the phone with Jim and he said they have slowed the labor but it has not stopped. The first 24 hours after the shots have started are critical and if Im understanding correctly - if the labor doesnt stop within the first 3 days, they will have to deliver the babies.

Jim said the neonatal pediatrician came in this afternoon and talked to them about what to expect - of course letting them know the worst and telling them to hope for the best.

Anyway, we are still taking it minute by minute. This is going to be a long haul either way. If the babies are born now, they will spend a few months in the hospital. If they arent, which is what we are praying for, Jess will be spending the rest of her pregnancy in the hospital.

Jim is going to stay at the hospital with her the rest of the week. He is fortunate that he can work from anywhere. He can work while Jess is resting, getting ultra sounds, etc, so at least he will have something to occupy his time.

I will call him before I go to bed and check on them again and will report back later. I cant hardly stand not being there - but I also understand that Jim's place is by Jess's side right now and they need to be together. I cant and wont interfere with that. Hopefully, she can have visitors this week-end - and I will be the first one there.

Thank you so much. Sounds like I will be spending a lot of time in that area. We will have to plan on meeting.

I delivered Jim at Missouri Baptist 30 years ago.

I wish I had some kind of wisdom but I don't! It is in God's hands now and we are all praying for those babies! Jim and Jess are lucky to have such an understanding mom. I know it must be killing you not to be there every second.

I just got off the phone with Jim and he said Jess went about an hour with no contractions and then they started again about 15 minutes ago. Evidently from what the nurse told them, this will happen on and off until she delivers, which is why she cant leave the hospital.

They have moved her into a new room, which is private and this is where she will be until the babies come. Jim said there is a little "couch thing" in there that he will sleep on tonight. They gave him 4 pillows to try and make it more comfy. Hopefully, they will both be able to get some rest.

Tomorrow they will get another ultra-sound to determine the babies weight. We already know Rosie is a little larger than Harry.

That's about all I know. The waiting game has begun...

I really hope they all get through this, im sure they will because god can do wonders!! trust me I know lol. I was suppost to die a few years back when I was 7, my heart stopped, there was air under my skin, I was yellow and looked like a balloon (my skin was yellow because my liver and kidneys were also failing) I stopped breathing and they pumped me full of adrenaline (4x as much as they would of given a full grown man! remember I was just 7 and I was suppost to die, but then I didnt! it was strange, all of my vitals were going downhill FAST but then they jumped up, I almost had a heart attac but then they leveled out and I woke up about 3 days laiter and i was fine! the only reson why this all went on was because I had cancer in my lungs and beside my kidneys, I was suppost to die, my doctors walked out on me and god kept his promise, he promised my mom that as soon as everyone walked away from me he was going to save me and he did.

to this day im still shocked that im alive, im only 16 but I sure am greatful that im alive, i was in ICU for 5 days after all of that happened and then I was home, I was the fastest recovering kid they have ever seen lol.

I will keep your family in my preyers.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I know exactly what you are going through. My grandaughter had twin boys in November, they were 7 weeks early. It was really scary but they are fine. Tristan and Hunter were only in the hospital for 6 weeks and are both doing great.

My thought and prayers are with you Rita. I too lost a son name Kevin many years ago, it pulls my heart strings every time I hear someone talk of the loss of a child. My daughter gave birth to my first grandchild just over 8 weeks ago. She was in the hospital a week before she delivered by c-section. She named him Kevin after the older brother she had never met. She is my oldest living child. I will continue to pray for you, your daughter, the babies and her husband. May God be with you.

My family's prayers are with you all. Rosie and Hunter seem to want to come see their grandma badly! Just remember to keep GOOD thoughts!
The ped and NICU docs have to tell you the WORST! Toria was 8.5 weeks early... and they scared the poo out of me! Luckily she was developing better than we thought and did great! I am sure with love and prayers it will all work out fine!
