I like to think I'm pretty well bonded to my crew but most of you never hear me even mention Zoom. You hear mostly about Maddox, Skitzi, Kiki and Daddy...sometimes Shiloh...but Zoom? He's my oddball. We even named him Zoomerang because he has always been like a fast boomerang. He'll jump on you and go right back. He does not like to leave the cage. If I go and open the cage, he'll jump right on me. If I take two steps away from the cage, he jumps back to it. The floor? Forget it. He NEVER goes on the floor. He never has and I THOUGHT he never would. If you look at him in my photos, you won't find a picture where he isn't in the cage or he's on me sitting right next to it.

Well tonight, everyone else was on me on the other side of the room. I don't know why, it's just habit for us to play away from the cages. Out of nowhere, Zoom jumps out of the cage, onto the floor and hopped across the room to play with us! How long have I had Zoom? 2 YEARS! That's correct, I said 2 YEARS. I got him when he was 16 weeks old. He's always trusted me, will go on me (if I'm near the cage) and he's actually very sweet. I about peed my pants when he came running across the room tonight to play with us. Not only that, he stayed to play too. I'm still in shock.

When we tell you that they do things on their own timeframe and on their own terms, we're not kidding!

That's such a wonderful story. I felt like I was right there in the room with you. Super cool.

Helps remind me that there's still hope for my little threesome crew. It's only been a year since I got them so I'm happy to hear I have a chance. Thank you for the story (it really was great) and the reality check.

Yep, just proves with these guys that there's ALWAYS hope. When people want to complain that they aren't interacting after a week, I'll have to snicker from now on. I'm sure I sat there with my mouth open watching him hop towards me. I've never seen him do it before so of course, it was the cutest thing ever. LOL

Oh the bunny hop! How I adore it.

So glad Zoom came out to play and explore tonight. Hopefully this is just the start. It's always so rewarding when you see this remarkable change in them.

I'm finally getting somewhere myself with Bella. (I did the "hand of god" tonight as Ed likes to call it. And I kissed her all over her little head, she never once tried to bite me; she just crabbed at me and curled back up in her pouch.)

And you know I don't think I've ever even looked at the pictures of Zoom, because like you said you don't mention him much. He is a very handsome little boy.

This is awesome.
Also gives me hope. My girls are 13 weeks OOP and although we haven't really bonded, one of them is already pretty sweet. The other one is the one I'm a bit worried about. She's my crab apple. When I brush my hand up against the pouch she crabs and when I don't stop she strikes at me to bite, mind you through the pouch.
I've wondered if she'll always be like that, but it gives me hope that we just need to do some serious bonding before she's nice to me like her sister already is. XD

CONGRATS!!!

Ed says never to "hand of god" a new suggie.

It's when you just stick your hand in their face and snatch or grab at them.

It makes me laugh whenever I think of it. But Bella was always too scary to ever hand of god her, so I had to take the chance tonight. She's finally getting used to me and doesn't try to eat me every chance she gets.

I never heard of it like that, but that's just a cute way to refer to that.
I didn't know what to call 'it'.

Awwwww what a great story. I can just "see" him hopping across the floor and you sitting there with mouth hanging open. Sounds like he is shy and finally got tired of not joining in the fun. I hope he continues.

This story teaches the lesson that it all happens on glider time. Rita has raised him from a baby, and it took two years for him to decide to play with her. It teaches that not all joeys are easy to bond with. It teaches that even the most shy or intractible glider is worth working with. These are all realities that a lot of people don't understand. (BTW, if you're going to be crude, you could at least have the courage to stand up and be identified. Just my opinion.)

What's BS about it besides you being a coward? People think after a week that they should have cuddly little gliders in their pockets. They won't. That would be called a REALITY CHECK. I didn't mean to confuse you with big words, so here is the definition:

Right on on all counts.

And I am so glad that happened with Zoom. I have 7, 2 for 3 years. 1 for 2 years (son of the 1st 2), and another 4 for a year. They are all in different stages. One of the ones that I have had for 3 years is not much closer to me than the ones I got a year ago. The other 4 are awesome.

Most of the time it takes time. Feel lucky if you have some that trust you. They are not like cats and dogs.

I feel it's a reality check, I've seen people who come here whining that they are going to give away there gliders because "They keep biting me" or "They won't bond with me" after a week...

People need to learn that these are naturally timid animals, you wouldn't immediately trust a giant who could crush you with one hand right? Well that's what we are to them!

People need to see this, especially the ones who come here asking questions and wanting to know about gliders before purchasing/adopting, see this thread and can see just how long it can take to form a bond with a particularly stubborn baby.....

Also I would like to say congrats! It's so nice to finally hit that stage with them isn't it! I have a feeling I won't get there for a while with Aussie, but with Tazz it was near immediate! Guess I'm lucky

from what i've gathered, usuallu when you buya pair there is a timid/crabby one and a really sweet one... This also seems to be the case with the girls ill be taking home in April... Pika is said to be very gentle natured, while Hoo has a bit more of a wild streak. ALL the same- the sweeter sibiling always encourages the other to interact! I think its true what they say- theyjust need time and continual encouragement...

What makes people want to be so rude and condescending? If you're going to post something like this at all, be bold enough to show yourself.

I think it's awesome that he finally came around, some of them never come around at all.
