Oct 26, 2007 California Border Run for Rescue Tonight Posted by: LuckyGliderGail and I are making a run for the CA border from Vegas tonight. We got a call about a 3-yr old female who needs a new home. Not sure why but if you ask too many questions it's easy to scare off a possible rescue and that doesn't help the animal. So anyway, we are meeting up with this individual down in Primm which is on the border of CA and NV. Since suggies are not legal in CA, a lot of glider owners come to NV for veterinary care. And these same people are naturally scared to go to a regular rescue. So we intend on making more runs for the border from time to time. If anyone knows of a CA resident who does not know where to turn, send them to us: LuckyGlider@sugarglider.com
Oct 26, 2007 A return to this site's origin Posted by: Eric C Originally, this site served as an online journal for Kazko, months before a forum was added. I think it's only appropriate that I use this nasty font for this post as this is the font originally used all over this site over 10 years ago. In the upcoming days (weeks really) I'll be posting some screen shots of the site over the years along with a bit of history on how things have changed. So, here we have a journal system, which I put together over the last few weeks. There is definitely room for improvement, such as adding a search feature, and you'll probably find a few bugs too. [:)] There are many online journals, or "blogs" as they're referred to these days, and this isn't meant to be a substitute for any of them. You'll find this doesn't have as many features, and this simplicity is by design. Traditional journals are simply paper and pen, so by that measure, this is already more complex than it needs to be. So why yet another online journal? Kazko made me create it. Other than that, I think this has real potential. I have an account on Blogger.com and I've only made one journal entry. For me, it has been an inconvenience to go to yet another website to chronicle my thoughts. I visit this site on a daily basis, so I think I'll be more likely to actually write something. Time will tell if this convenience holds true for anyone else. Even if you do maintain an online journal elsewhere, it may be practical to maintain a sperate journal here dedicated to sugar glider antics. The people that stumble upon your journal on a journal-mega-sites may not be as appreciative, understanding, or crazy like that people that visit this site. And let's be honest, this site is all about the crazy. There are some nifty journal features I would like to talk about. You can backdate your entries, which is what I've told Kazko he has to do with his original journal on this site, and as of this post hasn't been completed. You can enable and disable commenting for your journal entries. For privacy, there are two options. You can make an entire journal entry private. This means only you can read it. This allows someone to chronicle the life and times of their animals as a matter of private record keeping. The second privacy option is a new formatting icon,
, which is a [private] tag. Anything within the beginning and ending 'private' tag becomes private to you. It's as easy as highlighting what you want to be private, and then clicking the button. Anything made private in this manner will appear with a blue background with blue text so it stands out. This only works in journal entries, not in comments. The 'private' tag was a request by Kazko with the intention of keeping things like names, phone numbers, and addresses private, without breaking continuity of thought within a journal. So, that's it for now. I have some painting to do.
Oct 26, 2007 New improvements with Rascal Posted by: HeatherB Well this is real exciting. This Jounal thing must be fairly new, or I must be fairly slow, I never noticed it before. I'm so excited about Rascal. Chatter has always been my sweet little tamed bra baby. Rascal has always been...well, a little rascal. He likes to bite and crab and run around, and be just plain naughty. He's starting to calm down! Woo Hoo! I've actually been carrying him around with chatter in my bra...now I have two bra babies. When I don't have them with me, I feel like I have "empty breast syndrom"! And the best news is that Rascal hasn't bitten anyone for quite a long time! He's finally getting settled in! I hope they both keep up the good work. Or, I hope I keep up the good work, rather. One of us is doing something right. Whatever it is, it's working. I think the biggest thing is patience. I've enjoyed Kazko's diets. There are a lot of different ideas there and it's been fun to experiement with the different foods. I think my son is starting to become jealous because I never spent that much time in the kitchen for him. :) I guess that's all for today. My 9 year old puppy is having nightmares and I'm missing out on my little bugs playing. BOct 25, 2007 How the idea of Sugar gliders came to me!! Posted by: LL When my friend used to live around me we were on the Internet surfing and I went to this website called exoticnutrition.com thinking I might want a chinchilla well I saw a picture of a sugar glider but at the time I didn't know that it was a sugar glider. So I went over the picture and it said "Sugar Gliders" so then I went and looked up sugar gliders so I did research for six months through my whole seventh grade year. Well my dad made a deal with me that if I got a 3.5 he would let me get whatever I wanted in reason. Well I got a 4.0 and I said I wanted Sugar gliders! Well my dad is not a big fan about animals so explained everything to him that I knew and told him how good of care I would take of them. Well he said yes so we called this women by the name of Lisa at sugar-gliders.com she talked to us for about a month then she said that we would find a date and she would ship them to me! Well we went to pick them up that day so when we did I was so happy and my dad was too. So I named them Luke and Laye from "Star Wars" both of them are boys but I decided to name them that and I really have not changed it since now they know there name its really cool and I have proven that I can take care of animal that need that much of attention!! So thats my story I'll post some of what happend when I first took them out it was really funny!!!Oct 20, 2007 Huahua the dog swims 4 km daily to nurse pups Posted by: kazkoThis is an amazing animal story! Huahua the dog is mother to a litter of pups. But the location of her litter was unfortunate; when the water level of the nearby river rose, her spot became an island with no source of food. So Huahua now swims off the island to get her food, back onto it to nurse the litter. READ MORE />
Oct 19, 2007 The Misfits fight back Posted by: kazkoWell I have given up on merging JP with the Misfits. They two boys just wont accept him. So I am left with a dilemma. I guess I'll be keeping 4 cages. Maybe I'll just keep trying over time, but I dont see anything changing. Oct 19, 2007 Working with the Misfits Posted by: kazko Here it is 6:00am and I'm up with not enough sleep again as usual except this time I have been monitoring the four boys all night. Since I will be away working soon this seems like the only time I'll have to put them together for a long time, so I decided to try again. So far so good. I've put them all into a neutral cage and nobody seems to be dominating anyone. There is marking and a little bickering but it sounds much worse than it is. JP is standing up for himself and I hope the others just let him be a part of their group. They have been cuddling in pouch for half a day until about 5am which is why I'm up now.
Sep 26, 2007 Three boys in today for neuter Posted by: kazkoWe took Chico, Lucky and JP in today for neuters. The clinic has raised their prices from $35 to $55. It is still a good deal but it sure makes me take another look at accepting handovers and rescues. The boys made it home intact and I kept them resting in a bright room. The two Sugar Shack boys started "grooming" each other's areas so I separated them. We removed their collars and they went right to town on their areas so we kept collars on all night in a bright lit room. http://www.sugarglider.com/glidergossip/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9716&SearchTerms=neuter
Sep 22, 2007 Cookie's joeys are on their own now Posted by: kazkoCookie's 2 joeys are out on their own in the cage now. They have been out before riding on mom or dad but now they seem to be on their own. Sep 9, 2007 Kimmie's joeys are OOP Posted by: kazkoKimmie's little boy and girl are OOP today. The girl has a stumpy ear. I was hoping that it just didnt uncurl and I tried pulling on it, but there was nothing there to open. READ MORE
Sep 6, 2007 Kairi was rehomed Posted by: kazkoAngie just informed me that Kairi was paired up with another girl and given to Justin. Aug 28, 2007 Visited Angie at Hope For Gliders Posted by: kazkoEric and I went to visit with AngieH in Irving. We gave her Kairi to pair with a solitary female that one of her clients has. Angie has 30 or so cages around the house and it seems that all of her gliders are well cared for and handled.
