 Bonding Pouch Tutorial

Posted by: petluv15
-----
Materials:

4 pieces of fabric(for my 9 x 12 pouch, I cut 10 x 13 for seam allowances)

Zipper, 2 rings(optional to attach strap), and lots of Pins:

2 small strips of fabric:

Mesh for Window(1" taller than the removed section of fabric):

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step 1: Cut 3-4 inch strip in the middle of 1 inner piece and 1 outer piece:
Step 2: Cut two pieces of mesh the same length as the pouch and 1 inch wider than the removed strip(for seam allowances
Step 3: With the right side of the fabric of the top piece of the outer fabric facing up, place the mesh along the edge & sew along the edge. With the right side of the fabric of the bottom piece of the outer fabric facing up, place the other edge of the mesh & sew along the edge. (Repeat this process using the other piece of mesh and the inner fabric)
(For clarity, the orange piece with mesh and the solid maroon are my outer pieces and the solid orange piece and the maroon piece with mesh are my inner fabric - Go HOKIES!)
(The rest follows the steps in the youtube video on sewing bonding pouches except I choose to hang my straps from the side instead of by the zipper)
Next, with the two pieces that have mesh(one inner and one outer), face the right sides together in the middle with the zipper facing up in between them along the top edge and pin in place.
Then sew along the edge.
Place the outer fabric face up, then the zipper(with inner layers attached) along the top edge, and then the inner fabric face down. Then pin in place and sew along the edge.
Make sure to open the zipper part way before proceeding.
Fold piece of ribbon around the ring:
Lay out the fabric with the zipper in the middle and the two inner layers together and the two outer layers on the other side:
Place ring and ribbon in between the outer layers towards the zipper.
Beginning in the middle at the bottom of the outer layer, sew all the way around both layers except for a 1-2 inch gap when reaching the bottom again. This hole will be used to turn the fabric around. Then trim any excess fabric around the edges and turn right side out.
Attach straps to the rings and its ready to use!
 My glider journey
Hi, My name is Stevie. My husband and i just adopted at pair of 5 year old gliders whose names are Dawson and Daisy. it has already been a wonderful experience. i of course did my research and decided this what the kind of family member i wanted. i have a 9 month old daughter who loves to watch them play in their cage. she enjoys "bathroom time" with us as i want her to be a part of the bonding process. the babies love to climb on her and she likes to let them lick yogurt off her fingers. she has gotten a couple bites but she hasn't cried. they are finally starting to really bond with us. dawson is still a little nervous but he is warming up. daisy i have to watch everytime i open the cage cuz she wants out. i have learned these little critters are addicting. i want to talk with other people that have them. i love networking and learning from people with more experience than me in hopes that one day i will be giving advice to someone new. i am looking forward to this new adventure!
 He's crazy!
Hello! My name is Heather. I bought a 9 week old male standard grey sugar glider yesterday. I've been trying to hold him, and he's just so frantic! I feel so bad. He's afraid of me :( When I try to hold him he tries to just run away from me. He's pretty intimidating. But I try my best to but on my brave face. Is it normal? Is he just not comfortable with me yet? I also tried carrying him in a bonding pouch but every move I make he crabs like crazy! Please respond! :) Thank you! :)
 Nibbler squirrel squeaks for the camera
I caught Nibbler the squirrel out feeding in a rain shower so I proceeded to bother him for your video enjoyment of course. Turn up the volume and listen to him squeak as I poke and pet him.
Later in the day I found him sheltering in his gourd so I took him in for a minute and loaded him up with some dry treats.
 SICK GLIDERS???
Hi, my name is Breanna. I have had my gliders for a little over 4 months. But now they are acting weird. Well Rose my female is fine, except her paws are starting to look red and hurt I got her looked out but i still dont know. Moose is always shaking and cold so i turn the heat on and put a heat rock in their cage. But he still shakes. Is it bad that when i pick him up i can feel his ribs. That scared me so I took him out of the cage and fed him and made him eat. But idk if Rose is starving him and not letting him eat with her, or he's depressed. He also cant jump very far cuz hes so cold. I am doing the best I can. I took them in to a vet and they were fine but they keep going on and off. Also Today i had just noticed this red ball coming out by his but. Excuse my language but is that his genitalia, or is he wounded. It's under this sack of stuff idk what but ya and it looks like its not a wound but I just barely saw it today! So its weird. HELP ME!!! thanks
 Nibbler said hello today
I was out this afternoon troubleshooting some failed wiring for lights in the back yard trees. While I was focusing on the outlet box I had apart at the base of a tree trunk, I heard a sound and looked up to find Nibbler an inch from my face. He came down to see what I was doing. I said hello, gave him a kiss and he jumped to me. I took him in for a quick pecan and grapes and went back out to watch him enjoy them. Later on after I was finished with the wiring he came down again. I watched in horror as an adult squirrel followed him down and began attacking him. He was nimble and quick and escaped towards me but not without getting a bite on his rear end. I gave him another treat and a few kisses and watched over him as he fed a little on seed. It is sad that he has to toughen up and deal with territorial family. I figure this will eventually weaken my ability to interface with him. He may not always come to me when I call him down, but he does come sometimes and he seems to enjoy the treats, a little bit of attention and knowing that I am still here for him. I hope we can maintain contact because having him as a pet not in a cage is simply wonderful.
 Moving.. Ah, I'm tired now!
Posted by: Kozi
-----
I just wanted to give a head's up.
I'm from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.. In June I moved down to Tampa, Florida to help out some family. We needed to stay with them to help out for medical reasons.. So, I quit my job, we packed our stuff up and drove ourselves and our fuzzies to Tampa, Florida to help them out. Well, long story short.. things didn't go as planned, promises were broken, we lost a LOT of money(and ended up wasting more on a car that was supposed to have been maintained) and eventually I came to the conclusion that it isn't healthy for us to be staying here. Mostly on an emotional level. Thankfully my parents have a rather large house in the Racine area and they're willing to take myself and all the fuzzies in until we can get back on our feet, job/house-wise. So now, December, I'm moving back to stay with my parents for a while to get things started back on the right track. Eventually I'll be looking for another place of my own in the Milwaukee County area, more likely than not.
So, moral of the story is.. We were in Wisconsin, then Florida, and now back to Wisconsin. We will stay in Wisconsin. I learned my lesson in this, family is indeed family, but sometimes you have to put yourselves before even family to keep your sanity and health.
Here's hoping everything goes well with the move next week.
Thanks for reading. <3
